Where was I? Ah yes, Monday!
It’s Memorial Day here in the States…. and contrary to popular belief, it’s NOT meant to enjoy bbqs! It’s to remember those who died in support of their country and the sacrifices they’ve made.
Learn more about Memorial Day over at www.history.com/topics/holidays/memorial-day-history …. and if you see a serivceman or servicewoman today in the stores, buy them a cup of coffee or whatever they are in line for.
They do what the rest of us…. don’t.
And that’s something to value.
Over here in Lingland, things were…. interesting indeed.
First, heck froze over. I took off the day! 🙂
Next:
Remember how I had mentioned 2 days ago that we found a stunned birdie in the road? Well, yesterday on my way to Shoprite, the same thing happened…. I saw a birdie lying on its side right on the yellow divider stripes. 🙁
Shoprite forgotten, I returned to the birdie, picked him and noticed that like the other one, the feet were weird (and he was missing a tail too). I think he might have been attacked by a predator and dropped his tail in response.
I brought him home, woke up my youngest and said, new patient!
Here’s a sideways picture:
But the difference with this birdie is that he might simply have been stunned/frightened. He perked himself up afterwhile, flew around the ceiling a bit…..
… and then later that morning, we put him in a tree and watched him go.
Very satisfying indeed!
Plus… I gave myself permission yesterday to rest… and it was glorious with a capital G! ‘course, it wouldn’t be a Ling Weekend without some angst… I’ll write up about that shortly. Don’t forget yesterdays:
Where was I?
Ah yes, Sunday!
Yesterday I was taking the kids out in the mooseMobile. All were busy talking to each other and not paying attention to anything.
I noticed a fluttering on the middle of the road, thought to myself, okay natural selection, drove by, and then thought nope! Going to go back and see if we can help.
Drove back, the bird (a grackle?) was in the road unable to fly.
I asked my youngest to pick him up (he’s very attuned to animals) and then excused him from the trip…. brought him and the bird back home to see if anything could be done.
My youngest set up a hospital suite in his room for the birdie. Alas, all heroic efforts were for naught… and the bird quietly passed away in the afternoon. Kid and I brought the bird to the forest for burial and afterwards, had a long talk about life/death/caring/etc.
He told me how sad he was, and I responded, to those who are given much, much is demanded.
Painful lesson but one that is valuable indeed…. he managed to work things out.
Elsewhere in LingLand, nice quiet day. I’m in massive rest mode from the insanity enjoyed during the week. Hope your day is grand!

Ah yes, Saturday! Ah, yesterday was quite good indeed…. see, I managed to recover from my huuuuuge failure during the week. Instead of running away, I turned on a dime and recovered!
