Beat you next week, nifty pix, Ancient Latin, diet blogging and SLEEP! Glorious SLEEP!
Welcome! If you're new to my site, click HERE to let me show you where the best benefits for yourself are located. Thanks for visiting!
Oh how wondrous a full nights’ sleep can be. After the dismal ending to yesterday, I had a vaguely restful night (punctuated by my kids coming in and saying, Mom, it’s scary wind, can we sleep on the floor? And as Mom was less alert than a smoke alarm minus batteries, Mom said, suuuurrree….)
Work-wise, I started DF Blogger.com yesterday and began one of my coffee sites, only to discover it needs to be hacked up. Wheeee. I wrote:
- “Beat you next week!” How to write so your niche blog audience relates
- Viva the Easter Broccoli Bunny! Gaining the Edge and Managing your blog audience’s expectations - Day 4 of 5
- How to start a diet blog
- Ancient Greek and Ancient Latin Rocks for Kids Academics!
Today I have writing and martial arts-wise, BJJ in the morning (yay!) and Adult Karate in the evening (yay!).
And so starts the day,

Calgon, take me away
My gosh, if I could just clone another 78 ‘me’s’ to take care of my family so I could just run away for only a few hours!
Parenting is such a hero’s journey. Got one kid who decided to tantrum until he threw up. Got another kid who tried helping and ended up poking first kid in the eye. Got a bazillion sites to update. I’m famished yet don’t know what to eat. Set up one of my coffee sites to find out I need to move it to another server. Gad I sound pathetic. Honorable son who threw up is now velcroing himself to me when honestly, all I want to do is disappear. Sigh.
Ever been hungry yet have no desire to eat?
Must shut myself down methinks; it’s been a long day.
Night night,
Barbara

Recession proofing your business, getting the edge, sick kids and more
Morning all,
Yesterday one of my clan came down with a 101 fever - nothing to write home about, of course, but still, enough to cause discomfort. Hence no martial arts yesterday - most of the time was spent comforting said kid, doing some writing, etc. The rest of the family, however, is doing peachy (and kid just woke up - seems to be doing much better).
Workwise, I wrote:

I also figured that when folks first visit my AskOwlbert blog, they might want to know more about why they should subscribe. So! I wrote up:
as a test to see how that affects signups.
I have to write up Day 4 of my tutorial (wheee!) - it will be about including photos/pictures on your blog. Tomorrow I wrap up everything as well.
I’m still finding where my energies lie. Last night after 6pm, I was just exhausted and had no desire to continue working, so I gave myself permission to take a break. I have dozens of blogging opportunities, but my brilliance seems to want expression in AskOwlbert solely. I hope to zero in on my final business plan shortly.
And so starts the day,

Utter panic, easy twitters and smoke signals in a tornado
Talk about utter panic!
eBay announced yesterday that they’re going to be dropping the Commission Junction program.
I don’t even want to THINK about what will be required to update my 100s of sites!!
To maintain my sanity, I’m choosing to view this as, golly, these things happen, look at it as an opportunity for extreme frustration. It will require major note-taking, project management, etc…as if I don’t have enough work on me plate.
Ah well. I did manage to write:
- Viva the Easter Broccoli Bunny! Managing your blog readers’ expectations - Day 2 of 5
- Easy way to let people Twitter your blog posts - TinyURL plugin usable for tweets!
I’m particularly proud of the second article - it’s a non-techie way of reminding visitors that sharing is a good thing.
Family-wise, life is quite excellent. I’m trying to teach my kids that when sunk in utter despair, giving into black-hole imitating, while it does have its place in life, isn’t the optimal solution. It’s nice the kids are still at an age that what Mommy says, goes!
Martial-arts wise, Brazilian Juijitsu yesterday was great - because I haven’t had any beginners class (can’t make them, so I attend adult classes), I’m thoroughly incompetent….but do throw myself into it with great enthusiasm. It was only at the end of the class it all came together (one of the “getting past the guard” moves) so I’ll hopefully improve by next week.
Advanced karate was enjoyable (got pummeled a bit but was able to block well), Kendo was fun, and Adult sparring…wheeee! Alas, the world-class fighter who kindly bestowed the front kick that produced the living-room sized carpet burn on my elbow wasn’t there, but I had a blast with other sparrers too. Blading the body, directing hands down, pivoting etc. - it’s all coming together.
Alas, after I came home….I was awake for another 2 hours (just couldn’t sleep) so I’m running on empty now. Wah. Must write Day 3 of managing your blog readers’ expectations, “Beat you on Friday” and other work…and will then simply crash while the kids are at school. Right now, there’s no way in heck I’m in condition to do kendo sparring this evening, so perhaps I’ll give myself permission to miss class.
And so starteth the day,
Barbara

Broccoli bunnies, printing Wordpress posts and martial arts, oh my!
Morning,
It’s astonishing how creative one’s mind can become when you listen carefully to small children. Yesterday the infamous Broccoli Bunny concept arose once again….but this time, I decided to tie it into blogging! Thus, writing wise, you can see:
- Viva the Easter Broccoli Bunny! Managing your blog fan’s expectations - Day 1 of 5
- Easy plugin tip to make your Wordpress posts print friendly so Aunt Bertha can read them too
Yesterday evening I was quite under the weather, so I gave myself permission to sleep early. I’m feeling leagues better, which is a Good Thing as today is:
- Brazilian Juijitsu (gi)
- Advanced Karate
- Kendo
- Adult Karate Sparring
Alas, my rug burn of last week still hasn’t healed, so I invested in some heavy-duty bandages to minimize the bleeding on the mats. And yes, I’m going to taunt the World Class fighter to ‘go ahead, hit me AGAIN! I dare you!’; what’s life if not living on the edge?
But this time, I plan on keeping my feet firmly on the ground.
Really.
Time to make the donuts,
Barbara

Under the weather
Quick update - methinks I’ve overdone it a weee bit exertion-wise. I’m feeling quite non-healthy and will probably go on Mommy Shutdown shortly. Tomorrow is Brazilian Juijitsu as well as adult karate sparring; can’t miss that!
Night night

34 cool blogging ideas, free coffee, unhealed elbows, oh my!
It’s morning time, wheee!
I realized that the 5K odd files from my old hosting of barbaraling.com and virtual-coach.com has to be updated…so I downloaded Bulletproof FTP to get the job done. It’s still going after starting it, 8 hours ago.
Life-wise, my scraped elbow is still joyfully not-healed, which means that I’ll have to bandage it up tomorrow for BJJ. And I discovered my big toe is also minus a huge amount of skin as well; joy! Not!
Workwise-wise, my writing style is really blossoming (yay!) and I need to get my rear in gear for my other sites. Funfun fun. I wrote:
- Turbo-charge your blog with the ultimate of beverages for free!
- 34 innovative ideas for your blogging during March 16th to March 22nd
and will write today about printer plugins and other blogging goodies.
Soon it will be summer, and Camp Ling will fling itself into being! I really have to get going with regards to Camp Ling ideas. The kids want to attend maybe perhaps gee I don’t know the Anime conference in June, so I was able to reserve a spot for our family. I think we’ll center Camp Ling this year around making funny YouTube videos, Latin, and Martial arts. I mean, heck, doesn’t every parent?
Enjoy,
Barbara

Category hell, netiquette, dating one’s spouse and more
Morning,
You know it will be a productive day when you’re up at 3:11am to start work.
Yesterday we took the kids to a birdieDay party at one of those climby-type places. The good news is that my husband and I chose to view this as a date of sorts; we sat together watching the kids playing and just talking about life, liberty, etc. I think it’s important to keep that aspect alive in a relationship; ie, don’t succumb to the status quo and instead, put forth an effort to make every day special.
Workwise, I wrote:

Today I need to answer some SEO questions, write up some columns and attend party number 2 for the kids. Wheeee!
And so starteth the day,
Barbara

Words of wisdom, freight trains, and emotional rollercoasters oh my!
Morning!
Words of wisdom. Never bleed on fellow students at Brazilian Juijitsu.
Okay, I didn’t quite bleed on them…but the scab that resulted from being kicked across the room on Tuesday and becoming one with the carpet opened up again during the rolling/grappling. Wah! And the bandaid stuck as well as a wet paper bag. More wahs!
Family-wise, I do have to blog about the conversation I had with my eldest regarding studying, responsibilities, consequences and the like. Sigh. If only one could instill wisdom into youth without having to mentally use crowbars and concrete blocks!
Martial-arts-wise, BJJ in the morning was tons of fun, I’m so, ahem, newbie-like it’s laughable. Everyone weighs at least 50 pounds more than me, which emphasized I really need to focus on leverage and not weight. Still, though, it was tons of fun. And at adult self-defense yesterday, I was partnered with an extremely competent sensei who gave great instructions/help throughout the activity. No sparring, alas, but hey…I’m waiting for Tuesday! I’ve made a mental promise to myself that someday, I will be able to defend myself against the kind of “hey! I can touch the sky!” front kick that sent me flying before!

Today I have a date with my husband, I take the kids to a party, and I generally take it easy (if such a thing is possible with my family.

Getting slapped upside the headed, the SIMs 2, profound insights and more
Morning,
Yesterday was quite a super day writing-wise and family-wise! First things first; took the kids to karate, sat out of it myself (did some major stretching instead, gosh I’m stiff), and then did the 2.4 mile circle walk. One of my kids is craving Sims NightLife, and spent the entire time gravely explaining to me how, by purchasing this video game, I would be contributing towards her overall maturity and growth structure (Mom! In SIMs Nightlife, you can get a car! And grow a garden! And I would have to get a job because you know, Mom, you need money!)
Ya’ think kid? Ya think that’s why I’ve been trying to teach you about making money online via blogs/sites/etc.? Ya really think?
Kids’ thought processes are truly absurd at times.
Anywhos, writing wise, I devised:
- Getting slapped upside the headed courtesy of your pitifully dull blog writing voice
- Seize Your Perfect Domain Name via The Owlbert Way! Day 4 of 5
The first centered upon what happened to my kid at Aikido (you wouldn’t believe the bad grammar!) and smoothly segued into developing your own personal blogging voice.
The second one is Day 4 of a 5 day tutorial and concentrated upon how to step out of the box. To wit, I’ve devised my first quotable quote!
“When you’ve exhausted all possibilities by thinking outside the box - turn that box upside down and give it a good shake. You never know what will magically fall down that had been stuck hidden in the corner before.” — Barbara Ling (aka Owlbert)
Martial arts wise, today is BJJ in the morning and Adult Karate in the evening. There’s also beginners karate as well; I generally bring my Notebook of Brilliance and jot down whatever fascinating ideas occur to me.
Time to start the coffee,
Barbara
