And how was your day yesterday? Mine was, ahem, unique. :) Let me tell you…sometimes it’s heck ‘walking the walk’ one does while raising kids. Part of Camp Ling involves allowing my kids use me as Uke (Martial Arts term to describe the person upon whom the techniques are demonstrated), and I am a weeee bit exhausted today. While I’d love to consider myself indestructible, methinks that moderation every other day will be a Very Good Thing indeed.

Camp Ling 6/26/08 - Library walk, World of Warcraft, sparring and …
Yes, it’s true. I am actually capable of gentle kindness.
My kids took Aikido last night, and came home explaining that because they were Uke (the person upon whom the techniques were demonstrated), might they pleeeeease NOT get up at 6am?
Remembering how utterly comatose I was after my own Martial arts exertion, I had no problem giving them some time off. Woke ‘em up at 7:30am and got ready for the 2.2 mile circle walk of Fun and Excitement! Wheeee! Came across several yummy ripe blackberry patches alongside the road, and managed a great role-playing exercise during the entire trip.

An incredible art film (now newly restored and available on DVD), it tells the haunting story of a lonely Parisian boy who is befriended by a big red balloon. Nobody wants to listen to Pascal, or be around him, or even take the time to understand him….except for a seemingly sympathetic big red balloon. Instead of floating away when released, it followed the boy everywhere and even warns him where to go to escape a band of bullies who are jealous that he has obtained a scrap of happiness.

Unless you’re a fossilized clam, or perhaps have been quick-frozen in marshmallow carbonite, you’re probably aware that gas prices (especially in the USA) have increased a weeeee bit …
kinda sorta like an avalanche offers a weee bit of snow or a hurricane bestows a weee bit of raindrops or yours truly drinks a weee bit of coffee or :) …
and have risen faster than a rollercoaster ascends the skies (but, alas, hasn’t dropped off and leveled as quickly either).
And while it truly would be peachy-neat to ignore this fact of life, reality remains. It’s freakin’ expensive to fill up a MommyMobile ($67 for my Dodge Caravan over the weekend)!! Of course, this means that less driving will be done, alternative driving options will be uncovered, and a new lifestyle will be embraced with all the passion of a parent comforting a bodily-fluid-encrusted sick child (it has to be done, but wow, it’s amazing how truly icky being smeared with said bodily fluids can be).
