Are YOU a Restless Ocean of Landlocked Clouds? Crushing Analysis Paralysis

Feb 12th, 2009 | By Barbara | Category: Coaching, Insights, Make Money, Make Things Simple

FogMorning all,

I’ll tell you, when you awake to the free Daily Dose and see something like the image to the left, accompanied by copy like:

Days and days of smog. Yuch. And then rain to clear it away. And if you come over the hills at dawn, you can watch the fog crashing silently against the slopes, a restless ocean of land-locked clouds.

Sometimes it’s worth getting up early…..

It’s a great way to inspire some pretty nifty blog post ideas!

Free Daily Dose! You can sign up yourself at the Nicky Goodness button here to the right.  I highly recommend doing so – I’ve gotten so many ideas for insightful posts that I wouldn’t even mind paying for it.  But it’s free!

"A restless ocean of land-locked clouds."  Wow!  What a magnificent mental image!  And it’s perfectly valid as well; how many times have you enjoyed the calm serenity of driving through fog so silent and enveloping that the only additional signs of life were the soon-to-be-blazing headlights of the massively huge tractor trailer that was barreling down on you from a mere 20 feet away?

Okay, true, the tractor trailer part – not exactly the most calming concept!  But I really do resonate with the idea of land-locked clouds.  It makes me think of the sad reality of fettering one’s own abilities – you desperately want to soar with the eagles and claim your rightful place at the head of the thundering herd…

…But lack the inner confidence to flaunt your own personal greatness.

Hold it right there, I see you nodding your head!

Analysis/paralysis.  It’s hell, ain’t it?

I confess, I sometimes fall prey to that too…I look at all the knowledge I have and all the many different ways of sharing it….then I ponder on the BEST way to do so….and then say, Jeepers Barb, it will be here tomorrow, let me, ummmm, sit on the idea and look at it then!

Tomorrow, alas, never comes.  Ever notice that?

 Ca you relate?

If so, here’s how I now choose to deal with it.  I view the task at hand to being similar to being thrown into the Atlantic Ocean with only a life preserver and the shoreline barely in sight….if I don’t choose to do something/anything, nobody will do it for me and bye bye Barbara Ling!

You might succeed, you might fail…but one thing is for certain, you’ll never do ANYTHING unless you choose to do SOMETHING.

Right?  ‘course right!

Remember, when it comes time to taking a giant leap forward, you’ll go nowhere unless you start to move your feet.  Nobody else will do it for you.

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling

    Hi Barbara,
I love what you said about taking a giant leap forward because you’ll go nowhere unless you start to move your feet.  Nobody else will do it for you.
    Brilliant!
Analysis Paralysis is something which I believe can be overcome and often times, we just need to do something about it rather than allow ourselves to get stuck. There are lots of tips to get “unstuck” – especially in the realm of writing.
One such tip is to start writing randomly – that can sometimes help to generate some ideas too.
Thanks for the great resources for breaking out of analysis paralysis – great job!
