Karate KickMorning!

And how are you today?  So nice to see you swing by my blog, for I shall now regale you with a tale of utterly amazing idjutness that is so other-worldly, it’s worthy of the Darwin Awards!

You see, it all started yesterday at the YMCA gym.  No, actually, that’s not true - it really started at Halloween, when I was brazenly attacked by insane amounts of chocolate bar goodness, Milk Duds and other tasty unmentionables that devasated my good eating habits into teeny tiny bits.  Add to that no exercise, and you have a recipe for one, ahem, out-of-shape mom.

So!  Yesterday at the gym, I pounced on my beloved upper body "bash the body workout" routine, and…

No!  Wait wait wait!   Prior to going to the gym, I decided to indulge in the "sit down, stand up, front kick left, sit down, stand up, front kick right" exercise that dissolves your leg muscles while waiting for the school bus.  I managed 120 of those and figured, golly, I’m still walking!  Let’s see what ELSE I can achieve!

But I digress.  Let’s return to the gym and….

The good news is, prior to that day, my record for a left handed arm curl was 35 pounds - yet I managed to blast past that and complete 3 sets of 8 reps of 40 pounds.  Wow!  Not only that, but I was able to leg-press 220 pounds, lat-pull down 150 pounds, and otherwise really Read more »

Family fitness with Biggest Loser Family Edition

Safe and SmartMorning!

Well, okay, true…it’s not EXACTLY the morning, given the fact it’s almost midnight (6:45pm), but the point still stands…hello!

Today’s post centers upon family fitness…most notably, how to interest your kids in being healthy without causing them to angst all over the place.

You see, it all happened on Sunday morning.  Yesterday, I had awakened at my usual late morning time of 4am, wrote bunches of copy, cuddled with the kids at 7am, and started my morning workout routine around 8am.

Now, I always vary Read more »

You’re ONLY too old when you’re dead

What? Take a break?Morning!

So nice of you to swing by my site today; hope the past few hours have been treating you well!  Me, well, gee….yesterday was my  beloved Adult Karate where I kinda sorta went a wee bit bananas by the end in trying the techniques demonstrated.

So much to learn; I’ve finally internalized circular sweeps (the good news!  yay!) but try to use them when NOT necessary (the bad news!  wah!).  But still, class was awesomely enjoyable indeed.

Minor bragging note for me - I can now execute a front split to approximately 1 inch off the ground!  ‘Twas way better than what the kid who regularly clocks me with round-house punches during sparring could do.  Hah!  I have ONE (count it - one!  Wheeeee!) area of superiority!  :)

Oh that took soooo long to Read more »

Age is but a freakin’ number

Morning all,

Oh wow, what a tremendous start to the morning!

But wait! I just got ahead of meself - I must first rewind and bring you back, back back to…ummmm…..last week!  Yes!  Last week!

Last week, I had posted Today’s Thought To Share - Easily Do 100 Pushups.  I’m pleased to announce I’m up to 350 every few days (in batches of 7 - today is another 350 pushup day, I’ve already completed 150).  And I’ll bet you’re wondering:

Jeepers Barbara, what got you into doing something so insane?

So glad you asked!  You see, 2 weeks or so ago Read more »

Stop and smell the butterflies

Morning!  And how is life treating you today?

Over here in LingLand, I’ve decided that being healthy is a Very Good Thing indeed.  Having experienced the joys of food poisoning on Thursday and a virus yesterday, I can honestly tell you - I’ve had enough character-building in that general direction, thank you very much!  Hopefully this week will be, ahem, filled with more vim and vigor compared to blah and bovineness.

But I digress.  :)

Today’s post deals with how the most unique and precious of life’s little moments can profoundly affect  how you choose to live the Read more »

Today’s Thought To Share - Easily Do 100 Pushups

Share!Morning all!

Today’s thought to share deals with 100 pushups.

You’ve probably seen sites like

100 Pushups

right?  The premise is simple - work out and train your body until you can do 100 pushups in a row.

Believe it or not, that’s not difficult at all.  I should know - I just DID 100 pushups.

Okay, true, they were in Read more »
