Morning all,
With the economy currently battling Freddy Krueger in regards to which is more frightening, it only makes sense to lessen the financial expenditures one must endure during the next few months.
But an opportunity now arises (for as we all know, problems are simply mis-understood opportunties)!
Halloween is coming…and those cute little costumes you see at Party City or Kmart or what have you will run you between $20 to more than 15 cups of Starbucks coffee! And when you think it’s only for one day…you have to ask yourself, is there a Read more »

The fine art of beating yourself up
Morning!
Well, yesterday was quite the interesting character-building time for me. Actually, for the most part, it was quite enjoyable - got lots of writing done, taught my kids some snappy comebacks to idiot sayings, saw the final printout of the first brochure I’ve ever designed (and I’ll confess - that was sweet)….life was most peachy until my beloved adult sparring.
For there:
In a word, my skills were less optimal than, oh, lessee, a drunk moose playing DDR with his caribou buds.
Bleh. I’ve haven’t been that incompetent now for over a year; I have no idea to where my mind went during the bout. And afterwards, I couldn’t even leave (welll, of course I COULD, I chose not to, as the karate demo team was practicing and I always take pictures). So for the first 10 minutes, I dwelled on how truly lousy Read more »

Honoring your supreme cluelessness

Morning all!
You know, one of my favorite phrases in the entire world is:
Life! It’s character-building!
And because cluelessness (we’re talking the kind that would win the Darwin Awards if one existed for personal business) is part and parcel of one’s character (ideally, less than, hmmmm, 87% of your total makeup), I now firmly believe that it should be embraced and cherished and LEARNED FROM and then……let go with all of the fervor a Twitterholic embraces the latest version of TweetDeck.
By now, you’re probably aware….I, ahem, enjoyed the above opportunity to a point that made the phrase
Soul-searing agony
seem more appealing than a Read more »

Embracing your Rebel WITHOUT a Clue
Morning all!
My gosh, it’s now 1:42pm and I’m finally (yes finally!) feeling life start to percolate back into my veins. You see, yesterday I indulged (over-indulged) in my beloved adult karate sparring…and it was amazingly magnificent and spine-tingling and death-defying and quite enjoyable indeed.
Our sensei had us practice blocking drills (I counted three fresh new bruises on my forearm this morning!), blocks-into-strikes (my partner was a woman with a super reverse punch that landed over my chest multiple times; it was quite neat tensing my muscles to deflect some of the force. Wow, I actually HAVE muscles now! :) ) and then the actual sparring itself.
Idjut me…well, I was seized by an insane desire to be completely illegal with three opponents and try to get them into a headlock (all together now - "IDJUT BARBARA!!!"). Given the fact all 3 folks are ‘way taller than myself, this failed more dismally than trying to carry the ocean in a colander, but wow, it was tons of fun to try (imagine yours truly, the teeny tiny pitbull, trying to subdue a saber toothed tiger). Taekwondo Boy (1st degree black belt who is amazingly fast) was quite unstoppable yesterday; I went thru my usual moment of EEEEEEK! but was able to Read more »

The basic ART of massage Part 1
Morning all,
I’m in pain.
Nope, actually, "pain" is quite a minor, mellow word indeed….to describe the utter tortures thru which my right foot is now joyfully (NOT!) enduring.
You see, last Friday’s beloved karate class had us doing some utterly magnificent sit-down-stand-up release-front-kick sit-down again exercises. These are truly superb for building up your leg and thigh muscles; I really get into them quite ferociously.
Alas, we had a target towards which we aimed - our partners were holding an oval hitting pad. Now, normally I will always remember that Read more »

SURVIVING when your back is against the wall
Morning!
And how are you today, this fine exciting Sunday?
Me, well, life as always is quite optimal. Kids are up, husband is up, planning out what joyful adventures (read: finish homework, make Mentos gysers, etc.) and oh yes! Blogging!
Today I’d like to chat about how to survive when your back is up against the wall….literally.
You see, it all happened Friday night. Friday was my Read more »

Storming the gates of HELL , otherwise known as teaching kids boundaries
Morning!
And how are you today? Over here in LingLand, I suffered beyond mere mortal comprehension yesterday. Yes indeed, I had to (gasp!) SACRIFICE!!!!!
It was agonizing, it was painful, it was soul-searing and consumed my very being…..but for my family, I’d storm the gates of Hell (as would any other husband or wife).
Well, okay, perhaps….I might have over-exaggerated my undying hair-raising ethics-fusing mind-numbing rather mundane choice of yesterday’s action. You see, yesterday was supposed to be Read more »

How dare you NOT feel sorry for me!!
Morning!
I will admit, nothing is better in this world than a freshly-brewed cup of piping hot coffee, swimming with English Toffee zero calorie sweetener and creamer.
Well, okay, perhaps SOME things are better, like great romance, children who shun angsting, being able to catch the 5th degree black-belt with a surprise kick that flattens him unexpectedly, customers who not only buy a clue but even offer to help you out (that rocks!)….but the point remains. The Law of Pro-action IN Action - When people denigrate you, here’s how to respond
Morning!
Well! Talk about a birthday to remember! First off, our local stores are having their "We’re desperate to sell our clothes - please take of 90%" sale" (yes! My deltoids are set with sleeveless t-shirts!) and then I took my kids to enjoy "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (and let me tell you, for a Star Wars addict, it was truly a most enjoyable time indeed - not as good as the series but still profoundly satisfying).
A superb family time was had by all, and then I returned home to discover that a former colleague of mine in the Internet recruiting industry took the rather odd action to, ahem, denigrate my contributions on his site.
My. Talk about surprising! Read more »
