Today is Day 4 of my spine-tingling series of making money online!
And for today, I'm going to focus upon:
Cloaking…..your links.
My gosh, please!
One of the ways lots of newbie Internet affiliate marketers are losing money hand over earlobe is by leaving uncloaked links on their site, ie, stuff like:
lingstar.seoprofits.hop.clickbank.net
The above link is a clickbank link.
- The first component is the affiliate.
- The second component is the vendor.
And if I'm a Clickbank affiliate meself, I can simply substitute in *my* affiliate ID…and steal *your* affiliate commissions.
Not good at all!
One way to prevent unscrupulous peoples from stealing your commissions is to cloak your links. I
And here's how you do it.
Option 1.) Use a 4 line php redirect to cloak your links
Take this affiliate link.
Now, because you're a smart savvy person, you can hover your mouse over said link and see that's it's Clickbankable!
But!
Check out link instead.
It goes to the same place!
The file, "wpgoldmine.php", simply is:
(?php
$URL="lingstar.wpgoldmine.hop.clickbank.net/";
header ("Location: $URL");
?)
(replace the parenthesis with greater-than/less-than signs)
By using this technique, I effectively cloaked my link….woot!
Option 2.) Use free WordPress Link-cloaking plugins
There's several free WordPress plugins like:
- wordpress.org/extend/plugins/affiliate-link-cloaking/
- wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pretty-link/
- wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-affiliate-links-cloaker/
and also paid ones like
That brings me to the next link-cloaking possibility:
Option 3.) Use sub-domain redirects to cloak links!
Notice that link above?
I'm using a sub-domain off of BarbaraLing.com!
explains this nicely. 🙂
Remember, gentle reader…
Making money online is a very serious business….and you owe it to yourself to protect your affiliate commissions as much as possible.
Doing the above is a grand way to begin!
