Howdy!
A few days ago, I wrote:
Concrete makes LOUSY parachutes – Part 1
The thrust of that post described how I received truly lousy news regarding my physical health…and how I chose to deal with the aftermath.
I’d like to tackl Part II today! And that part is:
Once you’ve accepted reality, what’s your next step?
And excellent question indeed! And here’s why:
What truly IS reality?
You see, since receiving my diagnosis, I’ve been flooded with emails by other folks who have been told the same thing (ie, you’re toast) and have refused to accept that particular reality. Instead, they chose to explore alternatives to modern medicine and craft their life as THEY wanted….and not what the doctors declared.
This is a HUGE POINT! And here’s why.
Nobody but nobody (except my mom, that is) knows EVERYTHING.
But EVERYONE….knows SOMETHING.
Put all of those somethings together, and you have a power with which to reckon!
In other words….
There are ALWAYS alternatives.
Your challenge when faced with life-changing situations, of course, is to determine how you CHOOSE to REACT.
Remember, many times…you CANNOT control what cards life throws in your general direction (medical conditions, for example)….but you CAN control how you CHANGE your future.
You own your reactions! You…and only you.
So when life kicks you in the teeth….you OWE it to yourself to pick yourself back up and say:
"I will NOT accept this meekly! I WILL turn on a dime and I WILL do my darndest to craft my future so that it meets MY needs…and not what common sense might dictate."
True, it’s scary. And also true…sometimes you might really discover that there IS no other way to approach your situation.
And you know what?
That’s okay too…..because nobody ever did say, life was fair.
Heck, if life was fair, consuming chocolate would lose you weight while typing on a computer would improve your cardio ability! 🙂
So we deal with it and we muddle our way thru our lives and throw out our very best effort to make things perfect. And if the answer we discover is NOT what we had wanted…we ask ourselves, what are we meant to learn?
And then we learn it…and we apply that precious knowledge to whatever OTHER traumas are awaiting us in the future.
Life….it’s truly character-building. And quite honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way…the joys cancel out the sorrows by a huge magnitude indeed.
What do you think?
Enjoy,
Barbara Ling
