"She who can laugh at herself will succeed where stuffed shirts fail."
– Barbara Ling
You know, one of the things I’ve been noticing lately while raising Honorable Boy I is his utter inability to laugh at himself when he goofs beyond the scope of mankind. And my oh my, does his little boy mind implode with rage with the "Don’t you laugh at me, it’s not fuuuuunnnnyyyy!!!!!"
I can only shudder and imagine how easy it would be for his classmates to cause him to dissolve into tears because of this.
So….I’m trying to head it off at the pass! When you can laugh at your own mistakes, you’re showing your colleagues that yes! You’re human too…and can not only deal with the issue but learn, thrive and overcome the challenges as well.
People too puffed up with their own importance, however, will simply reject any wisdom that might have been learned…and be left by the roadside, nursing their own imagined slights.
Always have the ability to look at life (including yourself!) with a healthy dose of humor. Your future successes will thank you for it. 🙂
