Today’s Earning Online Tip – Never offer your bonuses on your thank you page

Today’s Earning Online Tip

Do YOU have a newsletter or ezine or product or 7 day free eclass or free report or …. (you get what I mean)?

If so, tell me now (without looking!):

Do you offer a bonus if people sign up?

And if so….WHERE is that bonus located?

I REALLY hope it’s not on your thank you page!!

You see, that nifty optin form your autoresponder service gives you…it enables you to send people to a Thank You page!

For example, check out a Welcome page that I’ll be testing:

See that nifty optin form?  When you optin, you’ll receive my free report 3 Crucial Challenges to a 6 Figure Income:

Now, if you view the source of that page, you’ll see my ThankYou page is

Thank You For Requesting The Material!

The code that does this is:

<input type="hidden" name="redirect"  value="http://www.barbaraling.com/6figthanks.html">

Now, ANYONE can view the source of my page to find the Thank You page…and if I offered the download ON that page, they could grab it WITHOUT opting into my list.

As a marketer, that’s not good for me at all!  I want to offer my hard-earned knowledge in exchange for building my list.

Thus…if you are offering a bonus to encourage someone to optin to your list, ALWAYS make certain to deliver on your promise in your FIRST MESSAGE BACK (thus ensuring people don’t bypass your optin form to grab your bonuses).  You’ll cut down on tire-kickers while at the same time building your list.

And that, of course, can only be described as a Very Good Thing indeed.  :)

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling

Hey Barbara, thanks for the tip. It sounds like a small thing, but you’re right… quite a few people know how to bypass the subscription altogether, so they just take the bonus and run. Thanks for the reminder.

I know I used to do that myself a lot! Taking that small step really does help. Thanks for commenting!

Funny thing, but I was just discussing this today with my assistant. It looks like the code above isn’t complete, though; could you reveal the entire thing? I want to show it to her so we can do something similar for a project I’m working on right now.

Thanks! (P.S. Are you a mind reader too, or is that just a sideline????)

      Hi!

Alas, it didn’t display right – the code is:

If THAT doesn’t display right, simply view the source of this page and search for ‘aweber’ – you’ll see the redirect a few lines down. Thanks!

I do agree with you in principle, but there is one small problem.

If you get into affiliate marketing of your product, you’ll find people less than receptive with PPC ads if you’re building their list with their expenditure. But other than that, they’re a good way of building lists!

Indeed – I never use PPC myself. Good point!
