Today’s Authority Tip – Boldly Export Your Google Reader Subscriptions NOW!

Morning!

As you might know, Google Reader is being toasted beyond mortal comprehension on Monday (when the plug gets pulled).

Have you taken the extremely wise step of exporting and saving your Google Reader subscriptions to your local computer so you’ll have them when you migrate to another news reader?

It’s easy to do and I show it below:

In essence, all you do is simply:

  • Step 1.)  In Google Reader, choose the Gear icon on the upper right.
  • Step 2.)  Select “Reader settings”
  • Step 3.)  Select “Import/Export”
  • Step 4.)  Click on “Download your data through Takeout

This will create a ZIP file you can save on your local drive; open that and extract the file “subscriptions.xml”

This is all of your Google Reader subscriptions and folders in one easy-to-use file you can save for whenever you choose to migrate to a new Newsreader service.

I am currently using TheOldReader.com but other alternatives include:

Looking for other articles about Google Reader and how it might impact you?  I earlier reported on what most commentators seem to be missing over at

and you can also investigate:

Make no mistake about it – having a quality RSS news reader at your fingertips enables you to always be on the cutting edge of developments online.  It gives you the ability to see at a moment’s notice what platforms are rolling out new features, which company has made the bold new step to claim customer territory and more (think: stay abreast of your favorite leisure and entertainment sites too!).

If you’ve saved feeds in Google, all signs indicate they’re probably going away on Monday.

Don’t get left adrift; save your authority feeds *today*.
