Teeny Tiny Mobile Phone Screens HATE Your Site! Here’s How To Make Them Love it.

I'll never forget the day a 84 pound apple landed on top of my noggin.  I remember it like it was yesterday!

Oh wait, it WAS yesterday!  Hence the topic for this post.

It was a dark and stormy knight (and yes, I really did write that story (fable, actually) that started that way!  You can grab it for free over at Unlocking The Enchanted iPhone) a calm peaceful day in which children never mis-behaved a non-stop day yesterday.  Now, when I say, "non-stop", I don't mean your typical garden variety do this and then do that and then do this again thingee….no oh no!

Instead, I mean "non-stop" the way wildly out-of-control roller coasters are non-stop, the way tantrumming 2 years olds gleefully destroy their OFF button ONLY when they're in the middle of the Holiday Shopping Mall, the way ….

You get the idea, right?

Yeah.  I figured that.  I was busy putting together my valuable newsletter over at Weekly Expert Sales, and decided I'd adroitly add said newsletter to my affiliate program over there.

Deciding to do it…and actually DOING it – my gosh, talk about massively big huge flapping flags in the hurricane!

You've seen that, right?  The wind would fling the flag in one direction and then 3 nanoseconds later, zoom it in another direction and then in the next instant, shred it to bits?

In other words, it was impossible to do ONE thing and say, Jeepers!  I'm done!  The next moment, you'd realize that Hey!  These 9,492 things have to be done FIRST before attempting my final goal!

Character-building and coffee-consuming that was, let me tell you that.

Anywhos, I refused to be daunted!

Adding my newsletter to my affiliate program is sheer unadulterated brilliance of the order of using soft fuzzy cup-holders when holding scalding hot McDonald's coffee!

Why, I hear you ask?

Simple!

See, people who sign up for my newsletter receive a discount for 2 of my most popular products (btw, I got this idea from seeing how James runs his magnificent newsletter – if you're not a subscriber, I HIGHLY urge you to do so here – signup is on the right a'ways down)  .

So if someone sends another future customer to sign up for that free newsletter, there's always a chance they'll seize this particular discount.

And when they do so….the affiliate who sent them there in the first place gets the commission.

So!  Adding the newsletter was a High Priority with a capital Harry Potter (get it?  Harry Potter?  HP?  Huh?  Huh?  Okay, I need more coffee….)!  And while doing so, I received an email from a visitor who said, hey!

"Your site is more agonizing to see on my teeny tiny mobile phone screen than watching a grammar school band play Angry Molten Baked Goods 27 times!"

(or something to this particular effect:

(Yes in sheer deference to saving my sanity, in MY home, "Hot Cross Buns" has been renamed "Angry Baked Goods."  Trust me.  It makes it far more….bearable).

So I checked it out and yes indeed – my site looked HORRIBLY AGONIZINGLY HURTFUL to the eyes (otherwise known as HAH!).

Which brings me to the point of this post.

How does YOUR site render on mobile phones?

After all, more and more people are accessing the Internet via their mobile phone.  Mashable reports that:

– 30% of smartphone users accessed social networks via mobile browsers — this was up from 22.5% in 2009.

– Total social networking access via mobile browsers on all mobile phones rose to 11.1% — this was up from 6.5% in 2009. Most of this growth was in the uptick in smartphone usage. (read more HERE)

So if your site gets tweeted or facebooked or what have you…more and more folks will be using THEIR teeny tiny screens of doom to view your great big huge magnificence.

But do NOT despair!

Luckily, if you use WordPress, you can download a free plugin to automatically make your site mobile-friendly!

Some of them include:

I'm currently playing around with them all meself, but will probably go with WordPress Mobile Press .

Want to see just HOW your site views on a mobile browser?
