Tell Yourself Today – Choose NOT to…
Tell Yourself Today – Choose NOT to…
Oct 13
Sometimes…we find ourselves caring a wee bit *too* much.
And sometimes, we discover much to our emotional distress, that our concern simply isn't wanted, needed or appreciated at all.
I was reminded of this when talking with a friend who is currently dating quite the jerk. My friend chose to always be there, always go out of the way, always accept getting kicked in the teeth because alas, that's the kind of person my friend is…very caring, very open-hearted, very naive.
Having done such things meself in the past, I could certainly relate. So I told my friend what my husband taught me yesterday.
And it's this.
Know when to choose NOT to give.
The plain fact is, you're a gift. Period, end of statement.
A gift.
And if the person who receives said gift chooses not to value it….well, you cannot control how that person reacts.
But you *can* choose how you *react*.
And you choose to react by choosing NOT to give.
My husband is quite brilliant, y'know?
So I told my friend to do what I did – write on a neon sticky note:
"I choose NOT to give."
You have no idea how empowering such a simple grouping of 5 words can be!
You see, you might have chosen in the past to give to unworthy people.
That doesn't mean you have to continue being a jerk to yourself.
Thus today, tell yourself you will choose NOT to give of your precious self to people who do not value you as the gift you are.
After all, it's truly their loss…and not yours.
Grow strong,
