Today’s Quote of the Day

"Don’t try to pet a snarling alligator’s head."

– Barbara Ling

In other words, if you see something big, mean and chomp-worthy…..LEAVE IT ALONE.

Even if you love it.

Even if you know the alligator in question is clueless as to how her behaviors are affecting the rest of the family.

I thought of this quote yesterday when Honorable Daughter 1 was banned by yours truly from using the computer yesterday; to say she was a weee bit, ahem, miffed….was to say an understatement.

So!  I made certain to alert her siblings as to her state of alligator-ness…and everyone in the family gave her some much-needed alone time.

Keep in mind that I KNEW what could comfort her…but realized that she was incapable of actually hearing the wisdom.

So I didn’t force it…but let her know the next day how much I was concerned for her.

End result?  Emotions were communicated…and any hurt/negativity was adroitly avoided.

Sometimes…we have to let our loved ones get taught by the school of hard knocks.  But we should always be there for the comforting followup.

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling
