21 Days to a more profitable blog – Day 5! Build your Twelcome page

21 Days to a More Profitable Blog21 Days to a More Profitable Blog Tutorial > Day 5!  Build your Twelcome Page

(Morning!  It’s 2:39am!  Do you know where your family is?)

I know where mine is…sleeping!  Not me, though – after such a wonderful 8 hours of sleep yesterday, my system joyfully bounced me awake and said , Surprise!!  And you thought you’d sleep again like normal individuals!  Wheeeee!

Never try to argue when your body has made up its mind to greet the morning air with utter zombie-like awakeness.

So, without any further ado, let me first do a sanity check (actually, I have yet to make coffee, but hey, it’s only 2:41am) and begin!

(ahem)

Today is Day 5 of my series, 21 Days To A More Profitable Blog!

And for today, I’d like to talk about…

The Super Bowl.

Are you thinking about Macgyver’s ultimate commercial it?  Alrighty now, let’s now consider the several times of, ahem, unique fans that attend this sporting event.  Among these hallowed creatures, you have:

  • Diehard fans who would recite statistics until the cows come home
  • The rest fo the world

Let me know ask you:

Do both types of people benefit from the same introduction to the Superbowl?

‘course not!   Diehard fans already know Superbowl Trivia down to how many blades of grass are in the stadiums…while normal people the rest of the world generally would benefit from a general overview of the event….the team highlights, the half time show that should really be DCI International, etc.  Right?

Still, though, good marketers that they are, the organizers of the Superbowl would want to offer information of interest to the die-hard fans as well…it would just have to be esoteric enough to satisfy their particular thirst for profound Superbowl knowledge (perhaps trivia centering how long it takes to grow astroturf).

In other words, there are several sectors to the Superbowl market – all of them visit the Superbowl, but each of them would benefit from a slightly different presentation of the knowledge of the sport.

Diehard fans would be satisfied with one particular focus, newbies would want to be offered a general overview, I’d give more examples but I’m clueless about football except for the MIT cheer:

"Detain them detain them!  Prevent them from moving the oblate spheroid across the striped surface!"

But I digress.  🙂

Anywhos, let’s now apply the above concept to your website.  You have visitors arriving there from search engines or other blogs (which is why yesterday you crafted your Welcome message and Why Subscribe page).  Wouldn’t it be peachy if you could craft a unique page for specific arrival sites?

‘course it would!  Let me fine-tune that even more.  You’ve heard of Twitter, I assume…an extremely popular micro-blogging site?   If not, you really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really should get yourself familiar with it – it’s a superb way to network with your niche, generate a following and much much more.  Resources to learn more about Twitter include:

So trust me on this – you WANT to be on Twitter.

Wtih me so far?  Great!  Now…I want to ask you the following question.

Because Twitter gives you the ability to add a link back to your site…ummmmm….what link should you include?

HOLD ON RIGHT NOW!

Before you answer

Ahem, duh, my website

Clue HerderLet me now call over the

dynamic Clue Herder To The Rescue

and offer you the following clue:

Since you KNOW people will be visiting your site FROM Twitter, why not craft a ‘Twelcome’ page specifically for them?

Hmmmm?

I’m not the first one with this idea, of course – I was lucky enough to be following folks on Twitter who first mentioned it over hereThat came into being after the author noticed @Pistachio and her Twelcome page…..and as I thought that was pretty darned clever, I decided to do that for meself!

That was last week or so, and let me tell you – it is a BRILLIANTLY superb idea that has really helped increase the peoples who follow me as well.

So!  Without any further ado, let’s turn to:

NOTE!Before You Begin – Find a useful resource about Twitter.

You know people are finding you thru Twitter…so why not help them out by offering them a link to Twitter goodies?  Here’s a nice search that will yield up some super  results:

My Twitter resource that I include (of course) is:

Twitter Budgie, the Ultimate Parallel Universe Twitter Fixer Upper

Twitter Budgie

Next, with the style and grace of Indiana Jones, move to:

NOTE!Step 1 – Go to your blog and create new POST (not page, POST), title it "Twelcome to my Twitter Page", write it and save it.

True, you don’t HAVE to make it a POST, but remember, pages generally show up on the top of your template….and you really only want your Twitter visitors to see it.

And true, you don’t have to call it Twelcome, but confess.  It sounds cute, right?  🙂

What was that I heard you ask?

What on earth should I right?

Did I catch you?  Huh?  Huh?  Did I?  Did I?  Let me rephrase the above:

What on earth should I write?

Good question!  I simply welcomed everyone from Twitter, offered a link to my credentials, pointed out some popular posts of mine and closed with how I use Twitter.   You can see my Twelcome page over here.

And when you’re done with it, close with a recommendation that folks follow you on Twitter and offer your resource for their edification.

Simple, eh?

Write it, save it, view the post, copy the URL and save it in notepad, reward yourself with your 32nd cup of coffee or tea, and then smoothly move to:

NOTE!Step 2 – Edit your Twitter Homepage..

Visit Twitter, log in, and then click on Settings.  You’ll see a "More Info URL: textfield – paste the URL of your Twelcome page there.

Save it…and voila, you’re done!  Now when folks find you on Twitter and explore your site further, they’ll be staring face-to-face with a Twitter-centric page and immediately…a connection has been made.

And you’re done!  No!  Wait!  You’re not!  I’ve only written out Steps 1 and 2…what about Step 3?  Ah hah…here it is!

And finally, for my last step in Day 5 of 21 Days to a More Profitable Blog, I’d like to suggest that you adroitly:

NOTE!Step 3 – Look for other like-minded Twitter folk

Now, true, if you start following a bazillion people, there are applications out there that will label you a spammer.

I personally like learning from anyone and everyone, so I chose to do the following.

Visit pages like:

See who is interesting…and then follow them.  Chances are, they’ll look at your profile, see your brand-spankin’ new Twelcome page, and follow you back.  The more people who follow you, the more people who are alerted to your blog posts, the more traffic you generate, and the more opportunity for people to click on your affiliate links and deliver increased profit to your commissions.

And that brings me to:

NOTE!In closing

In today’s lesson, you wrote your Twitter Twelcome post and changed your More Info link on your Twitter homepage to reflect it.

But!  An opportunity now arises!

(remember, there’s no such things as problems in real life – just misunderstood opportunities)…..

HOMEWORK –  How are people viewing your site?

Are they accessing it via their computers?  Via their laptop?  Via their mobile phones?  Via their iPhones?

Even more importantly…..is your site readable for ALL visitors?

Your homework tonight is to:

  • View your blog’s traffic statistics, see from what platform people are viewing your site….

and answer the following question.  Your blog has a specific theme….but is there anything you can do to change it automatically for visiors on weird platforms without touching any code?

You might be surprised at the answer….

Until tomorrow!  (and don’t forget, if you think any of your friends would benefit from these tutorials, please do share them!  I’ve gotten some great comments regarding The Clue Herder above…   🙂  )
