What a day yesterday.
Thing is:
The fine art of listening.
Sometimes it’s tough for family members to communicate.
And sometimes when they do communicate, they screw it up bigtime.
Had a big huge long talk for 2 hours with Kid #3.
It went well…. but yep…..
Was extremely character building.
Parenting is not for the faint of heart.
And then my youngest called me up at around 11:30pm – school issues that will probably cause a roommate or 3 to get suspended.
You’d think that boarding schools wouldn’t have these problems, but I suppose if they’re even less mature than college students…
Dumb things get done. 🙁
Today I will be taking kid #3 all over the place before shipping him off to the West Coast for summer college.
And maybe even (dare I think)… resting!
And that’s all….

It’s Thursday!
And OMG…. Yesterday.
Thing is:
Driving 9.5 hours and oh…. 500+? Miles.
Yesterday, the husband and I bundled ourselves into the MooooseMobile…
… and we drove up to MA to pick up kid #3.
And that was….
Character-building.
As you might know, I am Caucasian.
My husband is Chinese.
He and I are the most perfect people imaginable for each other (it will be 25 years this year).
So, our kids are biracial.
They are the best of two cultures…. blended together.
Thing is, some kids these days… want a racial/cultural identity/heritage/etc.
My kids have been called ‘bananas’ by fully Chinese people (yellow on the outside, white on the inside).
‘Chinks’ by Caucasian people.
And they’re learning how to identify themselves.
Now, the husband and I believe that we are Americans, first and foremost.
And that is us.
Some of my kids are learning more about their cultural/racial identity.
And that’s great… when we’re all aware of *what* we’re talking about.
Yesterday after picking up kid #3, we dropped by to say hi to Kid #4 (was so great to see him!)
And let’s just say the conversation ended up being full of misunderstandings on everyone’s part.
Came home after that 9.5 hour time out….
And decided to simply retreat from the world (after ensuring my business was running).
We had left at 4:30am yesterday… and I didn’t have time to do yesterday’s newsletter.
I apologize.
Today I hope to return to life and get back into the swing of things!
And that’s all….
