Can you imagine that?
It’s *so* easy to divide people. I wrote:
“OK there’s something I really do NOT get.
With this great big spotlight on how social media can manipulate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING…
Why isn’t there a call for something ALL sides can agree upon?
Like, say, oh, gee, I don’t know…
Refusing to excuse hate by ANY group
Refusing to excuse sexism by ANY gender
Insistence on *unedited* videos before jumping to judgment
Equal coverage by ALL sides on ALL issues (aka, not only those talking points that support their own personal POV)
And perhaps just as important:
*Personal ownership*.
Aka, if you realize you were *wrong* – you admit it. Explain why. Take ownership. But do NOT double-down on your wrong stance.
Why is the vast amount of the public focusing on *who they want to be seen as wrong* … compared to *how easy it is to get an Internet mob assembled to destroy the unpopular opinion of the day*?”

“YOU NEED A MOBILE APP
Not really. Your customers don’t need you to have one, either. Apps work best when they fulfill actual needs. Can a customer buy and receive a service through your app? Receive 24/7 customer service? Place a fast-food order? Access medical records or other data? If there’s no serviceable value, don’t jump to apps immediately.
Apps are marketing tools, not an extension of your brand. Don’t waste your money developing one unless you are certain you are offering something useful and actionable. Being perceived as bloatware isn’t a good look.”

One of the biggest myths I’ve discovered for myself is something just about EVERYONE will say “this can never work!”
And it’s this.
I mail my list a wee bit more than once a day.
When I first started doing this, I was slammed by just about everyone and their coffeecup.
But you know something? 6 years later I’m still doing the same thing and guess what.
It still works grand for *me*.
That doesnt’ mean it wont work for everyone, mind you… but it DOES work for ME.
And as I’m only interested in what DOES work for me… well then.
I will keep doing it.

Where was I?
Ah yes, it’s Tuesday!
Actually no, it’s still Monday at around 11:15pm.
The word for Monday was unbearably cold.
And you might remember: I had that exciting sprinting on my fused ankle… and as my ankle just *aches* during cold freezes, I figured I’d be mindful and stay home and nap.
An hour of staring at the ceiling convinced me that gnope, I should have gone out and exercised. 🙁
But! The evening had the special Steven Universe 1 hour goodie: “”Battle of Heart and Mind””.
And OH! It was SO unbelievably magnificent…. words failed.
But, I did get to watch it at the same time my youngest was watching … and that made for a fun birdieDay party. Can’t believe how the kids are growing…. their maturity far surpasses mine from that time.
Next, the confession time?
I basically wrote up an article that stated I was 140% wrong to join the mob mentality without getting all the facts.
An adult mob, I might add, against a group of teens.
And I made a promise NEVER to jump to conclusions like that (imagine the collateral damage and fallout).
See, everytime I do an action, I try to ask myself:
- Is this action something my kids would be proud of?
- My husband be proud of?
- Would I look in the mirror and be proud of who is looking back at me?
Stuff like that.

has some rather interesting hints that might be considered… blindingly obvious… but does contain some grand nuggets as well.
The closing of the article talks about how social proof and word of mouth are *trusted* concepts – you and I are ‘way more likely to consider a product or service if a friend recommends them (and alas, if a celebrity hawks them as well – witness the horror of natural health scams that celebrities latch onto with the joy of children uncovering their parent’s secret chocolate stash… and then recommend to their audiences), right?
That’s one reason why you see some advertising popups include “Join 3,284,993 other satisfied customers and sign up for our Amazing Coolio goodie!” Social proof! It can blast past other intellectual concerns and cause the user to fling up their wallet and figuratively scream, HERE! TAKE MY CASH!
Right?

Ah yes, it’s Monday!
Actually no, it’s still Sunday at around 6:30pm.
And what the heck, I think I’ll just dive right into it.
You’ve probably heard this phrase:
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”
And good women too.

I debated about including the following in this perkup, because its definitely polarizing…
… but I choose to believe it is just plain *wrong* to stay quiet about it.
So! On Saturday, you might have noticed social media blowing up about the March of Life in DC.
Most notably, there was a *single* frame, masterfully chosen, along with some powerful text…
…. that took on a life of its own.
And for the first time that I can remember in my life, I allowed myself to get caught up in it too, and passed it along without investigating it further.
Well, the thing is….
There was more than an *hour* of escalation prior…
… the events did NOT unfurl as social media wanted you to believe.
How do I know this?
Here’s an unedited video (more than an hour long):
And the confrontation that was highlighted in social media started at around 1 hour 12 minutes and 2 seconds.
I’ll let you watch and draw your own conclusions.
After learning this, I wrote the following:
“If there is ANYTHING you learn from the single frame snapshot of the teen and the Native American Elder yesterday, it’s this.
Single frames are carefully chosen with the intent to go viral with whatever message the poster wants to share.
And if it feeds into a narrative people already WANT to believe (white people bad! black people bad! people people bad!), it will develop legs of its own and then *you* become part of the faceless mob.
Again:
YOU become part of that faceless mob.
I myself did, this morning. I deleted that post and am removing myself from said faceless mob.
So many people forget the “justice” part of “social justice.” Myself at times included. And I need to take full ownership of my failings there too.
I highly suggest we all do.
EVERY single act of hate from *anyone* to *anyone* is reprehensible.
Every.
Single.
One.
Carry on.”
I am *deeply* ashamed that I allowed myself to get swept up in the hate…
… and neglected to check for the *facts*.
I was 140% *wrong* in buying into the slant the original poster wanted me to, well, buy into.
And hopefully, I will never be that mindless again.

And! In other news, behold this picture of me!
Yes! Got to the gym!
But what you DONT see is …
… 3 seconds after I took that picture, I saw that a woman 10 ft from me was throwing up (we were in the lockerroom). Switching into MamaBear mode, I discovered that YES! I can SPRINT! as in, I sprinted to the front desk, called out Medical Emergency in the woman’s lockerroom!, sprinted back, and helped as I could (fun fact – in 2012, I had my left ankle fused so yep – sprinting is NOT a wise thing *at all*).
The woman (an Asian lady in her late 60s?) said she told her husband earlier she wasn’t feeling well, bad food perhaps, etc.etc.etc. She lapsed in and out of lucidity but from what I heard afterwards, she and her husband were able to walk out of the gym (and hopefully, they went to ER afterwards).
In hindsight, sprinting on a fused ankle was Very Not Smart. I put myself on bedrest and worked from my laptop for the rest of the day.
But I’d probably do it again without question in the future.
