When you need an adoption attorney...

There are three ways to adopt - through agencies, private adoptions and by step-parents. All adoptions, whether through an agency or done privately, must be approved by a court.

The adoptive parents must petition for approval from the court as well as participate in an adoption hearing. And a court, of course, means that talking with an adoption lawyer would be a logical step.

How to find Adoption lawyers

Before finding an adoption attorney, get briefed on some questions to ask:

* What is your experience, knowledge, competence in areas of adoption?

* What is the average cost of the adoptions you have handled?

* How do you bill?

* Do you return my retainer fee if the birth mother changes her mind?

* What percentage of your total practice is comprised of adoptions? (More than fifty percent suggests adoption expertise)
