The Wealth of WhitePages
Good morning!
Ever need to find people from telephone numbers?
Or uncover possible candidates from interest
finders?
You're in luck - The Internet is replete with lots
of great people-finding techniques that you will find
invaluable for your recruiting needs.
Let's say that you have a phone number and would like to
see who owns it. You can trot on over to Anywho at
http://www.anywho.com and click on
"Reverse Directory"
at http://www.anywho.com/telq.html
. From there, you
can enter the phone number and see what comes up.
As with any Internet directory, of course, it's not
complete, so you might be returned a null answer -
then again, you might find the response for which
you are looking!
Anywho has several other great features. Their Toll
Free directory enables you to search on categories,
business names, states, and more. For example,
perhaps you want to find recruiters with whom
to network splits in CA.
Just query on
recruiters
and set your state to
CA
and away you go.
What about finding people's addresses? You can query
on the first name, last name, state, etc. What's
really neat about the response is you can click on
Map and have a complete map drawn to provide
you with directions.
Need more phone books? "Telephone Directories On The
Web" at http://www.teldir.com
has over 400 links from
over 170 countries worldwide.
What about email, I hear you ask?
Other directories are much better for
finding email addresses. Consider
The Internet Address Finder at http://www.iaf.net
Bunches of Peoplefinders at http://www.search-shark.com/people-finders.html/
AOL E-mail finder (by state!) at
http://www.aol.com/netfind/emailfinder.adp
Another cool resources is http://people.yahoo.com
.
Search on
Barbara Ling
and you'll come up with several of my hidden
email addresses as well.
But don't stop there! http://members.yahoo.com
lets you search on categories and interests as
well. Search for
java
like so: http://members.yahoo.com/interests?.oc=t&.kw=java&.sb=0
Not only are there folks with java interest, but you'll
also see categories of member lists like
http://members.yahoo.com/interests/java-1600006905
and
http://members.yahoo.com/interests/javascript-1600006942
.
REMEMBER - never spam such lists! Use netiquette at
all times when contacting individuals.
There is an extremely comprehensive list of white
pages, yellow pages, and how to find email addresses at
http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext/faq/usenet/finding-addresses/faq.html
.
You'll see http://www.cs.queensu.ca/FAQs/email/college.html
where you can specify your particular college or graduate school,
and then be presented with a direct link to their people/faculty
search engine. This is an excellent way of further tracking
down those outstanding college leads you need.
And of course, Yahoo! lists a whole bunch at
http://dir.yahoo.com/Reference/Phone_Numbers_and_Addresses/Email_Addresses/Individuals/
.
What about Usenet? You can check the newsgroup soc.net-people
as a last resort for all the latest updates of this kinds of
FAQs.
When searching for people on the Internet, always
be ready to try your hand at creativity. You'll be
surprised at the results!
Thankyouverymuch!
