Being the Master of the Universe

Long long ago, back before the earth’s crust cooled and when wheels were square, I was a Ksh Master of the Universe. I would write scripts that did the most wondrous things for systems administration. True, it wasn’t nmake, but then again, what is? 
Those halcyon days of yore came back with the speed of a freight train yesterday! I wrote my very! first! simple! Wordpress plugin for Tuesday and it worked at first try. Wow oh wow, that was sweet indeed. My kids pitched in with some of the storyboarding for Tuesday and together, we came up with a rather superb post for tomorrow!
Today will be cross the i’s and dotting the t’s, tomorrow will be launch date, and Wednesday will be Mom gets herself back to the gym. Wheeee!
Family-wise, kids had a very relaxing weekend….but I am noticing that video game playing usage is creeping in the UP direction. I will have to start putting on limitations and getting them back into the science/hacking mode (especially for Camp Ling). Must consider the best way to go about this.

The sun is shining (not), the birdies are mooing (not) and it’s time for me to start work again. I have 2.5 more days left until April 1st (ie, April Fools Day), wheeee!
I’ve decided that humor writing is ‘way more difficult than good ‘ole hacking fun. However, it’s all coming together very nicely. Yesterday, I wrote about teen marketing, keeping kids safe on Myspace and various other thingees as well.
Today, I have to finish the installation guide, the FAQ, the wordpress plugin, my Virtual Coach and and other blogs, joy! And people think I have no life, HAH!

Ikata, Nunchaku, HDTV and more
Morning! (stretch stretch stretch)
Let me tell you, I am really starting to get into this concept called “sleep”. It’s really great when it happens! ‘course, as this weekend is major workMode, chances are, my prior sleep is the last time I’ll experience it for quite awhile….
Anywhos! Yesterday, no martial arts! Wah! BJJ was canceled (she discovered after she drove the 25 miles to it), so I just practiced my rolls/falls/etc. And we chose to miss karate so we could attend China night at the high school - that was superb. We met up with my kids’ friends/parents and watched the state Chinese yo-yo champion, several amusing skits, and 2 of our senseis perform katas and nunchaku. My gosh, ‘incredible’ doesn’t do them justice; my kids kept talking about them all the way home. We’re really lucky to have these folk teaching us at the dojo.
Woke up this morning and realized, I neglected to set up an autopost to my mom’s guide at Virtual Coach. Quickly wrote one on buying an HDTV - fun!
April Fools day will be on Tuesday and I have so much work to do it’s scary. ARGH! Need to teach myself how to write a Wordpress plugin, need to take more birdie pictures, need to design the entire site…..my work is cut out for me.

Sleeping, site building, and taking it easy oh my
Morning!
Sleep has to be one of the most magnificent concepts known to mankind. This is the first time in ages I’ve slept past 5am! I’m feeing quite awake right now.
Workwise, Barbara is back! Yay! I updated my RSS thingee to the side here so you can see everything I’ve written - no need to write it again. And I’m back with a vengeance regarding research/data gathering; can’t understand why I let it go so long.
Family wise, one of my kids chose sparring again yesterday and the sensei recognized he just didn’t have the ability to continuously defend himself. So he orchestrated 3 kid black belts going against him, one after another! Each black belt was very gentle and while my kid was, ahem, not exactly competent, it really did help his self-confidence. I officially adore all the senseis at my dojo - they know kids superbly and are really a blessing in my kids’ lives.
Today is BJJ, but I’m not certain if I’ll take it - my elbow is feeling perfectly better but I really don’t want to run any utterly dumb risk. So perhaps I’ll just sit out and monitor it. My family is missing karate tonight; there’s an diversity celebration at our local high school so we’ll be attending that instead.

Servers out, elbow recovering, work progressing
Morning,
Yesterday there was a mega phone network outage where my servers reside…so I had to do local work instead of online. Wah. Today is major catchup day.
Good news is my elbow is much better - bowed out of Kendo yesterday to give it time to recover. I plan on being fully operational tomorrow! I found out there there’s a multicultural exhibition in my town on Friday, so I might take the kids there and miss self-defense/sparring. We’ll see.
Today my kid reveals the science fair project, so no morning gym for me! Can’t wait to see what creativity was wreaked.

Facing fears, April Fools Day, Youtube, Coffee Forums and more
Morning!
March is almost over, can you believe that! Soon I’ll have to start planning for Camp Ling. Last year’s theme was Naruto; I think this year will be Youtube and creating humor videos (as well as the usual academics, science, karate, etc).
And speaking about karate! Yesterday was so utterly superb for me I was one happy camper. You see, after spending the weekend trying to figure out just why I had panicked during sparring, I made a promise to myself that I would face such a fear one more time and decimate it myself. And I did! It’s astonishing the difference that keeping one’s eyes open makes.
Seriously, though, I acquitted myself quiet decently for someone of my (ahem) lack of skills. Still got knocked flat and still failed to block some head shots but this time, instead of panicking me, I choose to get more calm and just, well, flow *mentally*. When I returned home, I told my kid, Kid, you’re have been proud of your mom….and for me, that really said it all.
Other excellent martial arts news - another of my kids, known for his lack of bravery, threw himself into sparring and didn’t give up. He got thoroughly thrashed and the sensei told him, I’ll say this for you - most kids would be crying now and you’re still up. Kid was proud of that but more importantly, kid recognized that even when he was scared, he could still choose NOT to give up. I cuddled him for 8 minutes after that bout. It reminded me so very much of how truly dynamic people are….give them a chance to shine and wow, watch them take it.
Brazilian Juijitsu class - great fun as always. Had a new guy in class whom I was actually able to pin with leverage! Amazing. And got thoroughly flattened myself with the advanced students…but hey, it’s character building. Slowly (very slowly) it’s all coming together.

National Chore-Free Day For Mothers, April Fools, Featured Posts, oh my!
Morning all,
Yesterday was most productive in tons of ways. Family-wise, got the kids to the gym, did the circle walk with them, talked about superficial friendships and why superficial people sometimes seem to get an edge over the rest of us, etc. Kids are back in school today.
Workwise, I was a tornado. First off, I hacked my theme at AskOwlbert.com and added in a Featured Post as well as a Get Answers button. I owe a Hat Tip to Darren Rowse, his commenters and Chris Brogan for that; I’ll have to write that post this morning.
Then I focused on my April Fools joke that I’m building for 4/1/08. You can see hints at it over at all my Rants ; I bought the domain name yesterday and have to storyboard it today. I’m really not looking forward to that as it will require a MASSIVE amount of brainpower. I’ll probably sketch the ideas out during my kids’ karate this afternoon.
Btw - for the search term Twitter Rants - I’m in the top 10.
Writing-wise, I researched content for “Make Up Your Own Holiday” Day plus 26 other insightful blogging ideas for my weekly content-finding section. It was then I learned that tomorrow is Make Your Own Holiday day, so I wrote about:

Martial Arts wise, today is Tuesday! That means Brazilian Juijitsu in the morning, Advanced karate in the afternoon, Kendo following that, and adult sparring following that. I’ve done some massive self-analysis at how utterly, well, incompetent I was on last Friday, and am ready to not think and just flow.

Holiday stress, pushups, Twitter rants, Ikea and more
Morning,
I’m ‘way out of condition. During the summer, I could knock off 50 pushups with no problem. I have to get back into that. And during yesterday’s circle walk, I was chatting with my kids and realized one problem I had with sparring; I still mentally think, no proactive head contact; hence, I’m wide open to get slammed. Argh. I keep forgetting in the adults class, you don’t have to be a black belt for head contact. Double argh.
Oh well, live and learn. Familywise, kids had a great time in our secular easter activities - dyed eggs, dyed themselves, played games, etc. The husband and I had a great time talking about various life and liberty things; it’s nice to connect several times during the day.

Breaking your boundaries, Twitter rants and more
Yesterday’s martial arts was truly an eyeopener. I’ll write more about it over at AskOwlbert, but in a nutshell, I got pummeled to the point where choosing to stop was more attractive than 39 candy bars to a toddler…but I kept on going. I’m feeling much better this morning (I’m aching so much my body didn’t want to sleep much) and am still analyzing the whole event.
I personally think that everything you’re pushed out of your comfort zone, you learn something about yourself…and you get stronger and stronger. The process to getting there, however, is utterly (and this time I’m using the phrase correctly!) soul-searing. You’re never the same afterwards. Oh, and Brazilian Juijitsu was great fun as always.
Kid-wise, my kids took great care of me after sparring last night. It’s so super to have children who can recognize when Mom is about to fall into a heap, and do something about it.
