Morning!
Let me tell you right NOW!
JOY! is thinking you’ve completed updating your blog online.
NOT JOY! is realizing that IE6 breaks it…and that lots of people still use IE6.
NOT JOY! is spending 4.5 hours fixing it.
JOY! is realizing it finally works (and if it’s not working for you, please do drop me a line about that!).
But I digress.
This Sunday is Mother’s Day! And are you prepared?
In BOTH ways????
What’s that? You don’t know what Both Ways means?
Why, it’s simple of course - you celebrate your mom and/or wife, and you give your current/future customers something that makes them go WOW.
And here’s how to do it!
Step 1.) NEVER assume you know what your wife/mom wants!
Oh so critical, and yet, how many people forget that! Let me be the first to inform you, Mother’s Day plants, well, generally DIE unless the recipient has a verdant thumb! Not exactly the best message you want to send (especially as it spells out “Thoughtfulness” like “Oh gee peachy, there was a sale at Pathmark for Mother’s Day greenery. ‘course, if your mom likes really weird plants like my mom used to, you could go to a greenhouse and buy a Tiger’s Jaw Succulent but I’m warning you now, they’re tough to cultivate).
Thus, exert the dynamic energy you know you possess and (I hope you’re sitting down for this) ask! Yes, ASK! Ask your wife or your mom, “Oh person of my utmost adoration, what would really flap your earlobes this Mother’s Day?”
You might be lucky and hear (as did my husband) the thoughtful response:
“Gee dear, thanks so much, but I already have everything I want….I’ll let you know if I ever do decide to buy a Samurai sword and tell you which one to get!”
Hey, it could happen. You never know.
Once you have bought an official clue, make it so. And that takes care of the personal aspect of Mother’s Day! Let’s now move to:
Step 2.) Determine what can you offer to your customers that they would value…and would bring you profits as well
And no, I don’t just mean offering a discount!
Think outside the box. Potential profits can be more than money! They can be increased readership, viral marketing, large list growth and more.
With that said, have you considered:
Boosting your mailing list by setting up a new autoresponder that delivers a complete free product?
I’m serious! Perhaps you, like me, have over 20 ebooks that you’ve written over the years. Perhaps too, you’ve recognized that what worked two years ago is still quite feasible today! Why not set up a new AR and offer all new subscribers a free copy of your product?
The benefits are undeniable - first off, future customers get to see the quality of your product. Next, you grow your own mailing list! And finally, you can include in your AR followup sequence a reminder to subscribe to your feed (thus building your readership as well). The page footer on my special report you see up to your right has that gentle reminder already.
Offering a future discount for your future products?
Don’t want to give away anything for free? That’s fine - why not set up a new autoresponder that will deliver a discount coupon code for your future works?
Everyone wants to save money…and this is an easy way to build a pre-launch list as well.
And of course, you can’t forget the simple
Mother’s Day Saleathon!
Set up a packaged Mother’s Day bundle that offers a discount on your most popular items. I’ve done that myself - my suite of Rich Hermit books are slashed to $97 over at Only 74 Hours.com. I handle these orders manually (must clone myself to automate that….) and every year, it delivers bunches of new sales.
The above are only 3 ways you can use the holidays to make money on the Internet - with great creativity, you can come up with dozens of others that fit your own specific personality!
Enjoy,
Barbara

Hi Barbara - It’s weird but we have Mother’s Day here in the UK in March. Now, I’m emigrating to Australia (hopefully) and I’m wondering if they share the same mother’s day as the States. That could make it difficult to get a card for UK Mother’s Day. Hopefully they’ll be available online somewhere.
Hi Cath,
Thanks for visiting and commenting! According to Mother’s Day Celebration, the Australia Mother’s Day does indeed fall on the same day as the American Mother’s Day.
Australia? I have a bit of that in my office - I share it with 15 TwitterBudgies.
Enjoy,
Barbara
I love your layout! Thank you for the ’story’ tip, btw. I loved it!
Cheers
