I’ll be writing more about this later today, but today’s thought to share focuses upon my realizations yesterday as I finished up from facing off against 6 people in my karate sparring class:
Your age is a mirror. Choose what you reflect wisely.
This year I’ll be turning 44….and yet, one of my favorite pastimes at my karate dojo is the karate sparring class where I go against folks ranging from kids to adults in their 40s. The best fighters are in their 20s and can mow me over like a tractor trailer facing off against a pastry product….but I never let that stop me!
Think about it – as you reach and enjoy each year of your life, society has definitive set expectations of you.
You can either accept them and sit the lobby watching others having the times of their lives…or you can say, to heck with that!
I can be as young as the sunrise or as old as the stars….the choice is MINE.
The coolio-est (is that a word?) part of yesterday’s activities was the pylo training in which we all had to jog in place, fling ourselves down on the mat when told, and pick ourselves up the next instant. Oh that was SUCH a blast – Kids 1/3 my age were whimpering by the end but I was still going strong!
You never have to accept that of which society deems you capable….go out and blaze your OWN trail. I certainly have been blazing mine…and life has never been better.

in September I will be 55. People older than 50 are talked about as the “seniors” or the “silveragers” or whatever. I don’t feel a member of these crowds, and I think a lot of people hate being addressed in that way. There is one saying here: “You’re as old as you feel”. There are times when I feel my back, but I know a lof of younger ones who have difficulties with their back or their heart or whatsoever. “Blaze your own trail” – yep, I will!
