Morning all!
Yesterday was one of my kids’ birthdays, and I’m *thrilled* to announce that not only did he have a superb time, but it also cost me less than $50, gifts included.
At the end of the party, he told me, Mom, I’m going to remember this always!!
Now, true…as he’s still in the single-digits, chances of that are, well, pretty small…but the point still remains.
How many kids’ parties have you attended where the focus was on how much sensory experience one can cram into a 2 hour session…instead of simply giving the kids the tools we had since the dawn of time (each other!) and letting them create their own games/memories/good times as well?
I think too many kids’ parties today go into the sheer overwhelming "My Gosh Is That Vogue Wanting To Cover My Son’s Birthday Party?" mode.
I look back at the parties of my youth, and cannot remember a one (except for my 13th birthday, in which my parents got me a sword that I still own to this day).
Seeing how thrilled my kid was yesterday from the simple party we threw for him and how all my kids played together to create pretty super memories indeed….it really brought home to me that birthdays are about creating great memories that last and last.
You DON’T need to spend an arm and a leg and an ear and a toenail to achieve that. You really do not.
