Zeroing In On A Profitable Diet Niche – Day 1 of 5 of Making Your Diet Blog Profitable

Morning!

Having recently had life kick me in the teeth rather unexpectedly, I've decided to test out a nifty idea regarding tutorials.

As you are probably aware, there are more niches than politicians exude false promises.  And I figgered, figgered I, that tackling a niche a week for (get this!) one whole week would be quite the most fascinating experiment indeed.

Of course, to do this effectively, I needed to zero in on something….popular!

Exciting!

Spine-tingling!

Not to mention, something sooooevergreen that 97% of the customers fail at!  So they keep on coming back and back and back!

I'm talking, of course, about the diet niche.

All together now:

ICK!

Well, okay, not ick.  As a matter of fact, dieting (and fitness and sex and confidence and parenting and elder care and *not*, I might add, moose-wrangling) is something that will never ever ever go out of style.

Why?

Because, she said, hoping you'd ask that so she might indulge in a satisfying rant, all the weight loss companies *want* you to fail, because that way…you're a customer for life.

Thank you, I feel much better now.  🙂

I must confess, I consider myself to be quite the authority on dieting and weight loss, as I lost 50 pounds meself and wrote The Safe And Smart Internet Weight Loss Edge (currently being revamped for 2011!).

And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that people will *always* (as in, every single time, as in, the opposite of never, as in, 24x7x365, as in, since the Dawn of Mooses, as in….) be searching for a short cut and quick fix.

Ergo….instant never-ending supply of customers!

That is, mind you….

If you can build up a following and compel people to buy off of your dieting recommendation, of course.

So!  With that as an introduction, let us explore how you can make money in the diet and weight loss niche.

The first step, of course, is to specialize.

True!  You do *not* have to specialize, of course – you can simply create blogs like:

But, let's be serious…diet blogs are a dime a dozen (about 42 million result when you search on Google).

So!  Instead of just plain "diet", why don't you instead focus on *either*

  • what kind of diet

or

  • the type of dieter

Let's go over those two ideas in more detail.

NOTE!The "What Kind of Diet" Diet Blog

The "what kind of diet" diet blog simply picks a particular (hope you're sitting down!) dieting method.

  • It could be the Atkins diet.
  • It could be the South Beach diet.
  • It could be the Cabbage Soup diet.
  • It could be the Body for Life diet.

The theory here is the because you'll be niching yourself more deeply, you'll have a better chance at rising to the top in search engine results.

An easy way to find out the types of diets available is to simply search on:

types of diet

and you might find:

Just think of how bananas you can go with that information!

But that doesn't flap your earlobes?  Why then, you can instead focus upon:

NOTEThe "Type of Dieter" Diet Blog

This diet site centers upon the generic individual in question.

For example, you can focus the diet blog on

  • Dieting for Moms
  • Dieting for Dads
  • Dieting for the Venerable (ie, elderly)
  • Dieting for Asians
  • Dieting for African Americans
  • Dieting for Short People
  • Dieting for Obese People
  • Dieting for Red Heads
  • Dieting for Large Breasted Goddesses
  • Dieting for Overly Endowed Super Studs

You get my point, right?  🙂

The benefit to this kind of diet blog is that it relates to the superniche, ie,:

  • Moms
  • Dads
  • Venerables
  • Asians
  • African American
  • Short People
  • Obese People
  • Red Headed People
  • Large Breasted Goddesses
  • Overly Endowed SuperStuds

Which would make diet and niche cross-linking quite the opportunity, wouldn't you say?

I would say.  And I'll bet you would too!

Thus, to recap, if you plan on building your business in the diet niche, take the time *first* to decide, just how you want to approach your content.

Remember, you can always change it in the future!  The key here, however, is to simply…get things started, and started in a way that makes sense for future growth.

What other ways would you have for zeroing in on your diet niche?  I'd love to hear your ideas below!

Enjoy!
