Where do the days go?
I ask you this in all seriousness…sometimes I think being able to make hasty slowly is a very good thing indeed.
But I digress. 🙂
Today, I'd like to take you on the exciting journey of:
Writing What Your Readers Crave To Read – Day 4 of 5 of Making Your Diet Blog Make Money
Makes sense now, doesn't it?
I mean, let's be serious. People ideally should *want* to follow your blog, just like people should *want* to be blessed with a never-ending supply of coffee or zero-problem children or bacon flavored chocolate or….you get the gist, right?
Yep. What I said.
So! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write what your weigh loss readers would beg and plead for the privilege to read.
Sounds easy enough, eh? And the good news is, it's not that difficult at all.
Let's begin!
Step 1.) Ask yourself – how can I make my readers feel XYZ about themselves?
Ah….emotions.
Emotions make things happen.
Apathy? That's when folks read, yawn and go "Next!"
But if you can spark an emotional response from your reader…you have a far better chance at compelling them to return again in the future to see what else you offer.
The question of course arises…what kind of emotion works best in *your* diet blog?
Well, it actually depends upon your personal blogging voice.
If you're a warm and nurturing individual, perhaps you want your readers to feel…hmmmmm…. "hopeful."
If you're a "It's your own damn fault you resemble Free Willy", you might want your readers to feel….."anger."
If you're a comic relief, you might want your readers to laugh bunches and close with, "Hey! I can do that too!"
Like I said, it all depends upon…you.
Once you have that feeling down, next:
Step 2.) Pick a topic that naturally lends itself to that feeling
There are a bazillion topics about which you can write regarding dieting.
Not all of them, however, lend themselves to the particular emotion you want to engage.
For example, if you want to invoke anger, writing about how you lost 3 pounds in two days definitely will NOT work towards your best interest!
But, if you write about how you gained 3 pounds after succumbing to the 17 dreaded white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and how pissed off you are for falling off the diet wagon…now….that *might* possibly work.
Want to evoke support? You can write a story about how a man was unable to lose weight for months and months until he gave himself permission to actually start exercising *more* than lifting a remote.
Or how a woman helped one of her friends achieve her own particular weight loss goals.
And once you have both step 1 and step 2 down, you can adroitly dive into:
Step 3.) Let your unique diet blogging voice shine!
You know what you want your reader to feel.
You have the topic that will enable you to cause that incredible sensation.
Now….it's time to give yourself permission and craft that perfect blog post that achieves your goal!
You don't have to imitate others…
You don't have to think, well, it's never been done *this* way before….
You simply have to give yourself permission to shine.
And honestly, that's all there is to it.
Not so scary when you look at it this way, eh? 🙂
Grow strong,
Barbara Ling
