Easy way to receive mobile phone messages from your Wordpress blog

May 20th, 2008 | By Barbara | Category: Make Things Simple

TextingYawn.  I’ve been up now for 12+ hours and it’s only 3:08pm and I have adult karate sparring at 8pm.  Will I manage to stay awake?

Anyone want to fax me coffee to help?

But I digress.  :)   Back to business…..

Do you live for your mobile phone or iPhone or YouPhone or TheyPhone or WhatHaveYouPhone?

And do you blog as well????

And do you lie awake at night yearning to uncover exactly how you, yes YOU, you can receive text messages via your blog?

If so, why, get thee hence to the Quick SMS Wordpress Plugin!   To wit:

…If you spend a lot of time moblogging it can be a little bit lonely out there – especially if you don’t get back to see your comments very often. Maybe you’re publishing a live event & want instant feedback as it happens. Maybe you just like to hear from complete strangers. Either way, this plugin may be the answer.

Quick SMS allows visitors to your blog pages to send you SMS messages direct to your mobile phone, wherever you are. All you need is a mobile phone registered with one of the supported networks ….MORE….

Implement this, add the required code to your sidebar or use the widget, and voila, people can text you from your blog.

Nice, eh?

Enjoy,

Barbara

So, I suppose this is one of those things that you have to have the self-hosted version of WordPress to use.

I still have the basic set up and haven’t really seen a reason to go through the trouble of switching.

I’d love to hear why I am wrong! :)

      Hi Aura Mae…
Another very good reason for having a self-hosted blog is that YOU have control over your content. There is no risk of getting your blog shut down because you must follow another site’s TOS, and you can sell as much as you like without repurcussion. It’s also not unheard of to find that your blog has simply been deleted – and with a self-hosted solution, you can easily keep proper backups, customize to your heart’s content, and so much more.
      Cheers!
      Lisa

        Aura Mae?

I agree with you on your comment. Owning your own blog is the way to go.

        Enjoy, Barbara

    @Aura Mae,

When you self-host a wordpress domain, you can upload any plugin you’d like and really customize it to exactly your wishes. The article http://tinyurl.com/6mdumr explains it well.

I love self-hosting Wordpress myself because I own the domain…and I can then set up

domain name emails (ie, barb @ barbaraling.com
    subdomains (ie, http://ebaya.barbaraling.com )
    any plugin I want

etc.etc.etc. Domain names look far more professional than abc.wordpress.com or xyz.blogger.com, in my opinion.

    Hope that helps,

    Barbara
