Free Halloween Costumes in Today’s Economy

Free!Morning all,

With the economy currently battling Freddy Krueger in regards to which is more frightening, it only makes sense to lessen the financial expenditures one must endure during the next few months.

But an opportunity now arises (for as we all know, problems are simply mis-understood opportunties)!

Halloween is coming…and those cute little costumes you see at Party City or Kmart or what have you will run you between $20 to more than 15 cups of Starbucks coffee!  And when you think it’s only for one day…you have to ask yourself, is there a cheaper alternative?

I’m thrilled to announce, heck yet!  You can check out your local Freecycle instead!

Freecycle is a coalition of hundreds of neighborhood mailing lists.  The premise is, you can send a note to your local FreeCyclers to offer items you no longer need…and in return, you can post a WANTED request too.

Visit the site now!  You can browse to your state and perhaps town, sign up for the list, and post away for free.

I did that myself this morning!   Here’s the email I sent:

Hi all,

My 2nd grader desires to be an angel.  Does anyone have a Angel costume they no longer need?  We can give it a great new home!

Thanks in advance,

Barbara

Will it work out?  Will someone send me email offering their costume?

Who knows?  But if so, my kid will get his wish…and I’ll get mine by being cost-conscious during these hard economic times.

Remember, a lousy economy DOESN’T mean you have to refrain from participating in activities you and your family enjoy!  But if you take a few minutes to research free or cheap alternatives, you’ll get the best of both worlds – a happy family and a contented adult who knows, they made it happen….without impacting their checkbook.

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling

i’ve heard about this. great idea. this way, less pressure is exerted on the planet in the form of new purchases and new production, when old items end up in landfills. :O

Sounds like a great way to help other people and get stuff for free.  I honestly might think about signing up, but I’m not sure there is anything I need or want that isn’t out of the free range (for example, I would like a new car but nobody is giving one of those away for free).

Made me start thinking aboug how I dressed up as a sandwich made out of poster board, and a bag of grapes made from a clear trash bag and purple ballons.

Love to see it when people use their creativity and imagination, can’t wait to see what people come up with this year.
