A Brief History of Angels

Morning all,
And how are you today? I hope your weekend was as enjoyable as mine - I indulged in a romantic date with the husband (went to see the movie Religilous, an utterly brilliant rational take on a very irrational subject), spent time with the kids, worked on my various projects and the like. I’m currently building a psychology association site and the ideas I’ve devised….wow, it makes the process so much easier.
But I digress. 
Today I’d like to talk to you about angels.
Now, you’re probably aware that organized-religion prone….I’m NOT. ‘matter of fact, I tend to follow the guidelines set out in the Jedi philosophy (as well as bunches of Earth Mother ideas as well).
Be that as it may, last week I truly understood what angels really are…and how their mythology came into being.
Last week, one of the best people on this planet, Bobby Frank, died. My life was blessed by him being in it - he helped me and thousands of others walk without pain.
I attended the funeral on Tuesday….and since then, have been mulling over how his actions affected my life and how I feel now that he’s no longer in this particular lifetime of mine.
And I’ve realized….although his physical self is no longer around, the goodness he exuded and the spiritual gifts of strength and courage he gave freely still stay with me today.
Fact is, I feel comforted to believe that his spirit is now a guardian angel that watches over the people of which he took care while he was alive. And those people include me.
I think this is how the concept of angels originated. When someone about whom you care dies, it leaves a big huge hole in your heart. Something has to fill that hole…or else you feel incomplete.
It’s human nature NOT to want to feel incomplete.
And so, you start to think on NOT the person himself or herself….but instead on how his or her actions impacted your life. Your life was made profoundly better by knowing them!
Because they are no longer here and you can longer physically see or touch them, you have to assign them some other quality of being. That quality is pure simple love and compassion. Not romantic love, mind you, but instead - the universal love that surrounds us and binds us all together (as Yoda would say, The Force).
And because that’s invisible, you need an entity to contain it.
That’s how the concept of angels was created.
Well, okay, I really DON’T know the above is true….but it certainly makes sense to me!
When someone you love or someone who profoundly affected your life dies, it’s their physical being that is destroyed. I personally believe their spirit (and the goodness/benefits they evoked in your life) still exists in some other place…as a guardian angel who looks out for you over your shoulder forever after.
Such beliefs give me comfort…and after all, isn’t that what one’s spiritual ideas are meant to do?

Hi Barbara - I’m not sure exactly what I think but that is a really nice idea. I do believe we’re all connected and i don’t believe everything was like we read in the Bible.

Very nice post. I lost my grandmother a month ago, and this is exactly how I feel now.
All this love she gave me, all the things she’s done for me all these years, will always be here. So yes, now I have my angel always somewhere near.
Isn’t that so very true. We all live on the memories of our loved ones.
