Ever get an insane desire to be silly (now now, I know you’re thinking to myself, who, me?) and make money at the same time?
Of course, such an adventure just HAD to happen to me yesterday. It really did! There I was, sitting by my computer, prostrating my unworthy self before my coffeecup enjoying a nice cup of coffee when @jfalconer had to make a pun about (and I quote):
The Ling Dynasty
From what my admittedly coffee-deprived mind can remember, we were all talking about levels of venerableness (the polite way of saying "not exactly young." And as I’m the Maverick Matriarch of Ling Land, @jfalconer somehow punned that into an entire dynasty idea.
Never being one to ignore any sort of brilliance that takes a 2×4 and starts whacking me over the head, I realized such an idea would make a really dandy fun site for prosperity. Thus, I searched about and found (oh yes oh yes!) the domain:
was available! Now, as domains can be had for less than $10/year, and you can even find totally free hosting for them at places like DotEasy.com, I figured I could take this concept and run wildly with it to the bank and beyond.
So! First I invested in the domain name, and then said to myself:
Self , about what should it be? And also…Self, why do you always use good grammar when only yourself is listening? And also….Self, why do you keep talking to yourself?
Such are the questions that drive me bananas. But I digress. 
I’m all about making people laugh while teaching them to make money, so I decided to combine the two. I quickly researched online all about Chinese dynasties, and then realized….golly! Dragons are like dinosaurs! And and and ….. dinosaurs are like birds! And Owlbert (my cartoon alterego) is an Owl!
OMIGOSH, OWLS ARE BIRDS! Therefore:
Owlbert’s great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandaddy could have been a dragon!
Eureka!
And thus the image
was born.
But how to monetize it? Simple! I used the eBay affiliate program to create an editor kit about really expensive Dynasty goodies. Nope, I don’t expect anyone will buy those from me, mind you…but if they click off a link to learn more, my affiliate ID is credited to any future eBay bid they might make.
But not only that. I never miss an opportunity to drive folks to visit my flagship site, BarbaraLing.com, so I made certain to include that cute little drop-down window that encourages people to check it out as well.
End result? A funny site about which I can create an entire tutorial (Making Money While Being Funny!) in the future….that makes people want to learn more.
Remember! When you give yourself permission to master making money online….you have the ability to make insightfully clever ideas REALITY before that day is out. And that of course….is a good thing indeed.
