21 Days to a more profitable blog – Day 6! Make your blog all-browser and mobile-phone friendly

21 Days to a More Profitable Blog21 Days to a More Profitable Blog Tutorial > Day 6!  Make your blog all-friendly mobile-friendly

(Morning!  Don’t suppose you have any coffee you could fax over, eh?)

Yesterday was a mashup of super experiences and one very sad happening.  The super experience traveling up north to learn some martial arts techniques; today I’m so stiff I could double for frozen concrete beams but wow, it was superb.

The sad news is that 30 minutes after falling asleep, my kids ran to my room to wake me up and inform me that the TwitterBudgie, Avenahar, died.  🙁  What was very weird was an hour before hand, we found him perching on the top shelf of our storage unit….as Avenahar’s wings are broken, we couldn’t figure out how on earth he got up there.  I figure now that he must have known he was going to die and was trying to find a safe place.  We buried him in the forest and I held a memorial service for him for the kids; I told them Avenahar was traveling over the Rainbow Bridge and will now be a guardian angel for our family.

I’ll write more about him today; stay turned!

==========

Today is Day 6 of my series, 21 Days To A More Profitable Blog!

And for today, I’d like to talk about…

Eyeglass Prescriptions.

Oh how wonderful the world is…when you can actually see it clearly!!

Thing is, though….sometimes, you can’t.

Sometimes…you need eyeglasses to see the world in focus.

Sometimes…you need bifocals…sometimes trifocals…sometimes something else.

But!  When you finally hit on the right prescription, everything snaps into brilliant, readable, distinguisable color.

Right?  ‘course right!  What a silly question!

Thus!  Let me know now ask you:

What "glasses" are people using to view your blog?

Are they using a computer or laptop with a resolution of, oh, say, 800×600 or 1024×756?  How does your site display for them?

What browser are they using?  Did you know that Internet Explorer renders displays differently than Firefox which might be different than Safari which could be different from Opera which….

What if the display is a wee bit smaller?  What if it’s only 320×480 like an iPhone or 320×140 like the current Blackberry (note – the next Blackberry is supposed to be 320×480 as well)?

What then?   Hmmmm?

Well, I’ve got good news for you, gentle readers….there are several ways you can ensure your site is optimized for all sorts of digital goodies.  And that’s on what today’s lesson centers – the number of people who access blogs thru mobile phones are increasing dramatically!  You simply HAVE to ensure your blog can recognize when it’s being viewed by a mobile phone…and change the layout on the fly.

And here’s how!

NOTE!Before You Begin – View your site on Anybrowser and cry

Well, okay, you don’t HAVE to cry, but that’s sure what I did when I first viewed mine!!

Visit Anybrowser Site Viewer, paste in the URL of your blog and, well, weep.  If your site actually look decent, do drop me a line – I’ll envy you for not having to turn on a dime and fix things left and right!!  🙂

More resources you can test out inclue:

The previous exercise is just to show you how different things can look.  You opt to stop this lesson now and fix your sites’ issues (drop me a line if you have questions), or move to:

NOTE!Step 1 – Make your wordpress blog mobile-phone friendly.

Download and install the WordPress Mobile Plugin.  Activate it.  Your blog is now mobile-phone friendly.

Ain’t life grand?

Next,

NOTE!Step 2 – Make your WordPress blog iPhone friendly.

Actually, I don’t know if the above makes this step redundant.  But hey, it does seem to work.

Download and install iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme Version.  Activate it.  Wheee!  Your blog is now iPhone friendly too!

And you’re done!  Gosh this is one short lesson, it really is.  Wait!  About what can I write for a step 3?  Hmmmm….hang on, I know!

And finally, for my last step in Day 6 of 21 Days to a More Profitable Blog, I’d like to suggest that you cheerfully:

NOTE!Step 3 – Set up your own mobile site for free

Do you know about MoFuse?

Mobile PhoneIt allows you to set up your own Mobile site for your blog for free!

Here’s mine:

I even bought the domain name BarbaraLing.mobi and currently have it pointed to my mobile site.   There’s a professional subscription available that will put my Mofuse site on my BarbaraLing.mobi site…I’m in the process of setting that up.

Remember! When you do the above, you’re increasing the number of folk who can access your site…click on your ads…subscribe to your feed and more.

Nice, eh?

And that brings me to:

NOTE!In closing

In today’s lesson, you learned how to make your WordPress blog mobile-phone friendly.   By doing so, you ensure more people can read your content, subscribe to your feed and click on your ads.

But!  An opportunity now arises!

(remember, there’s no such things as problems in real life – just misunderstood opportunities)…..

HOMEWORK –  Now that people are viewing your site…..how will you make money?

I know, I know…you’ve been waiting for me to show you how to monetize your site since Day 1.  But remember:

The more people who VIEW your site and TELL their friends about it…the more money you’ll make!

That’s why I spent so much time these past 6 days in teaching you how to FIRST make it welcoming and viewable by as many people as possible!  Once that’s been put into place, you can now concentrating on monetizing your traffic.

Your homework tonight is to:

  • Visit eBay and Amazon and Clickbank , sign up for their affiliate program, and then peruse the sites to see what sort of products will blend in with your niche.   Take down notes of them….

and answer the following question.  How can you best incorporate them into your blog?

You might be surprised at the answer….

Until tomorrow!  (and don’t forget, if you think any of your friends would benefit from these tutorials, please do share them!  They’ll thank you for it…guaranteed).

Enjoy,

Barbara
