Make money with a Power Tools Niche blog and site (Black and Decker, DeWalt, more)

Apr 30th, 2008 | By Barbara | Category: Make Money, Niche Marketing, Profit Tools Reviews, eBay Affiliate Program

Morning!

When you think of the show, Home Improvement, do you immediately think:

MORE POWER!

I remember watching Tim Allen’s show Home Improvement- the tagline, MORE POWER, was always a fun cue to await impossible-to-do DIY tool time improvements.

Seriously speaking, however, power tools are truly a big business both online and offline. You only have to look at what’s available at eBay and Amazon, the zillions of power tool and DIY related sites, the ….heck, check out what’s currently on eBay now.

BLACK & DECKER 2 PIECE WIRELESS LIGHTING KIT, FW1000|

Black and Decker 2- Piece Freewire Starter Kit #FW1000|

and that’s only a smidgen of the money being spent on power tools.

NOT only that! Did you know there’s tool collectibles? Take, for example, power drills. Those are modern, right? What do you think avid home improvement warriors used before then? Perhaps:

Antique 1900s Rusby Patent Newark NJ Drill|

ANTIQUE BRACE ,DRILL APPROX 11 1 2 ” LONG V GOOD|

ANTIQUE VINTAGE OLD 16” LONG WOOD HANDLE – AUGER DRILL|

VINTAGE ANTIQUE HOLDALL NO 731 10 INCH Sweep HAND DRILL|

And I haven’t even begun to talk about power tools collectibles like shirts, coffee cups, promotional items and the like.

These are all the things that can help you generate a very healthy affiliate income indeed.

And here’s how!

Step 1.) Buy a power tools-related domain name and install a blog on it.

Certainly, you can create a blog entitled “Powertools.com” (already taken, alas). But why not use other related tool time terms as well? Consider:

Often, I will incorporate words such as ‘power’ or ‘tips’ or ‘news’ or ’secrets’ if I’m going to try and make money from a domain…but you can also brand your site with your own unique personality as well. Need some DIY/power tools glossary tips? Check out a great one at BeJane!

True once you settle on a domain name, you’ll need to host it online some place.

If you need some great bargains, check out:

Once that’s, pardon the pun, HAMMERED DOWN (ho ho ho, I slay myself!),an opportunity now emerges. A domain is simply the server on which you’ll put your wondrous power-tool goodies such as your blog.

Your Power Tools blog.

Your Power Tools blog that embeds your affiliate links!

Let’s now move to:

Step 2.) Obtain an eBay and Amazon and Commission Junction affiliate ID.

This is critical because these 3 programs will provide you with the majority of your commissions.

Sign up HERE for Amazon.com and HERE for eBay and HERE for CJ.

You especially want the Amazon and ebay links. Amazon gives a very nice commission indeed for power tools sales (think of all those high-end DeWalt and Black and Decker items diehard tool enthusiasts buy), and if you so desire, you can start reviewing them in your blog and close with your affiliate link.

See?

Don’t believe me? Check out the price (and hence, the commissions for)

Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-08-24 Summary: Dwalt D55140 air compressor DEWALT D55140 Heavy-Duty 1 Gallon 135 PSI Max Trim Compressor I recently purchased only the compressor and use it with a Grex 23 gauge pin nailer. Works perfectly. I have also used it with an old, discontinued 18 gauge nailer I’ve had for years. Works perfectly. The compressor is light, quiet and dependable. It is never in the way when standing on end under the bench, when not in use. I regret not buying the package. I paid $142.00 for the compressor and $40.00 for a rubber, 50′ hose. My final cost was $182 w/o the …more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-07-10 Summary: Worth every penny I bought this recently to do some trim work in the house. This thing drives 5/8 all the way up to 2″ brads to the same depth, using the same setting. Putting 3/4 half-round and 1/4 trim up was a breeze; I only wish I’d had it months ago when I put up some bead board. The compressor runs alot, but what do you want with a 1 gallon tank? The compressor is easy to use, and both it and the nailer itself are the usual high quality product I expect when I buy a DeWalt tool. This a great and handy item, and would recommend …more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-03-07 Summary: Great Value and Great Tools1 I bought this tool set six months ago. I have enjoyed using most of the items (I have not used the grinder or the circular saw yet). I love having a driver and a drill. The drill has tons of power (about ripped my wrist off a couple of times). The driver has considerably less power. The flashlight is great. We recently used it when our power when out for eight hours. The flexible floodlight was great to shine on our cealing in our bedroom and light up the room. Next, you need to:

Step 3.) Set up your power tool themed niche blog and site.

There are four highly important actions that you must complete regarding your blog:

  • Set up categories
    • I’d recommend to start off simple, like:
      • Power Tool News
      • Power Tool Resources
      • Power Tool Communities
  • Download/install anti-spam plugins (learn more here)
  • Incorporate affiliate programs to blog template. Both eBay and Amazon offer you suggestions on how to do this. When I implement this for my blogs, I put the affiliate programs in my sidebar and also within the single page postings as well. Search on Commission Junction for power tool affiliates too. You can add their banner links to your sidebars.
  • Install the CommentLuv plugin. When people post on your blog, this will pull up their latest post…thus encouraging them to participate.

So!

Let’s take a brief recap to see where we are.

You have your eBay and Amazon affiliate links.

You now have the blog set up and waiting for you.

Guess what! it’s time to find power tool news and such about which to write. Jump now to:

Step 4.) Search Out Power Tool Feeds.

Visit to Google Alerts and set up a comprehensive alert for

  • “power tools”

This is helpful because you’ll now be alerted whenever news or blog postings or forum postings etc. about power tools pop up. The day I wrote this Make Money on the Internet with Power Tools post, there were 13K news items.

Next, visit Google and search for

You should come across topnotch power tool sites like:

Add the feeds you’d like to your Feedreader.

Once that is completed, search for

This will deliver to your blogs that center on power tools, such as:

Continue adding feeds until you have about 2 dozen of them; that should offer you enough content to start writing.

And once you’re ready to roll….

Step 5.) Blog!

Now you can start blogging about power tools and how they are the most magnificent beasties next to fresh coffee. You can start writing about power tools in the news, offer DIY tips for mega Power tool usage, talk about company layoffs, etc.

But wait! One more technique will help:

Step 6.) Visit other Power tool blogs and offer useful comments.

If you write well at other power tools blogs, a direct link to your own personal power tools site will show up on the Internet. This will be extremely helpful in building links to your site.

Remember – it will take time to build your power tool affiliate income. That’s a fact.…but!, if you consistently write excellent power tool articles and content and follow tried and true marketing practices, your readership will increase as the weeks go by. And because you offer all the discounts and power tool goodies savings embedded in your site, your affiliate income should increase as well.

Tell me that’s not a beautiful thing. :)

Hope the above is helpful!

ThankYouVeryMuch,

Owlbert

It pays to save up for industrial or professional models if you plan on using the tools regularly. DIY tools are for DIY and home use and are made from inferior materials.
