How To Be A Leader When You Are Only A Newbie In One Easy Step

All together now:

Nothing says unadulterated, passionate, delicious love and lust like one's freshly grown and perked morning coffee!

Why yes indeed, I *have* been up since 3am working on my new relaunch, why do you ask?

But I digress.  🙂

Over the past few centuries, I've talked big huge bunches about killer topics like:

  • Making money
  • Internet marketing
  • Covert angeling
  • Taking care of friendsing
  • SEOing
  • Wrangling Moosiesing
  • etc.etc.etc.ing

And I'll tell you the one thing that really does seem to come out no matter what topic you're addressing.

Ready?

I mean, *really* ready?

It's this.

People want to feel smart.

Well now, that's certainly a surprise!   I mean let's be serious…I'd guarantee you didn't wake up in the morning and cheerfully announce in the mirror:

"Jeepers!  Today I shall astound myself with the depth of my ignorance!"

Right?

'course right!

The plain fact is, you want to feel good about yourself.

You want to be able to say about yourself, alrighty then, I might not be the next Steve Jobs or the next Bill Gates or the next (hang on, let me check my roster of A-list blogger names) Darren or Liz or Chris or Jeremy or Naomi or James or Mike or Patricia or Tristan or Barbara or Doug or Rachael or Heather or John or Sue or Alex or Allen or Fran or …..

Hang on, what's that?

You noticed that after listing a few A-list bloggers, I started including some of the "regular folk" who comment on my blog?

Wow…you're quick! You're right!  And….

And I hope my point is beginning to be made.

See, I really, truly and honestly believe, every one of us has the ability to be a leader in something.

  • Allen, for example, writes gorgeously and is hilariously funny.
  • Patricia knows lavender inside and out.
  • Tristan can take huge blogging concepts and neatly package them so even stark newbies can understand.
  • Steve is confident enough he can completely change the direction of his writings and alert his audience to them.
  • Mike knows huge bunches about WordPress.
  • Mitch shares useful ideas that are currently working for him.

And so on, and so on.

We're all leaders in something.

And that means….

We all have the ability to encourage our community and help our community grow.

Sure, you *might not* have been the designer of WordPress.

But….you *might* have just gotten your own domain name up or your own store up or what have you.

That means you're leagues ahead of those eager bloggers who are just starting out!

And that means you have the ability to be a teacher to them, ie, you can help out when questions arise.

Make no mistake about this, this is powerful stuff!

So many times, I've heard from clients that they feel "It's not their place" to proactively share their ideas and insights.

It's not their place to virtually raise their and and say, "Hey!  I think I know what could help you!"

After all, they're not an A-list blogger!

Well, guess what.

Neither am I.

And guess what again.

Even though I'm not, I'm always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone who asks.

If you're not…tell me.

What might be the difference between you and me?

It's *not* our levels of expertise.

It's *not* our years of online experience.

But…it could be…the following key, critical fact…the one I really really really *want* you to take to heart because you can do this too.

And it's this.

I've given myself permission to stand up and be counted.

I know my limitations.

I know my skills.

I know my areas of expertise.

And while I might never give Einstein advice when it comes to physics, I certainly *would* give anyone who hasn't had my life's experiences regarding being profitable online….my own ideas.

After all, I've already crossed the chasm of "thinking" to "doing."

You have too.  You're reading this blog.  Ergo, you know how to visit sites online, you might know how to comment, etc.etc.etc.

If you've started your own blog, you're already more experienced than someone who just heard about the word 'blogging'.

If you've just built your own online store, your knowledge about creating one is 'way more comprehensive than someone who is thinking about selling their own goods online.

If you made your very first comment today on someone else's blog, you've conquered any possible fear about sounding out your own opinions…which is more than a newbie blogger has yet to do.

See where I'm going here?

There will always be people who know less than you and…..

We interrupt this blog post with the following newsflash – a tremendously lousy way to get the day started is to see a tick on your children.

Pardon me while I take care of this situation.

While I'm making things all right with my family, enjoy yourself with:

Ah, I'm back again!  Thank you so much for your patience – I really appreciate it.

We now return you to our regular broadcasting.

———————————————————

Where was I?  Oh yes!

There will always be people who know less than you.

And there will always be people you can help *grow* as you yourself have done!

I really do think this is truly one of the blessings of an active, thriving community.

By ourselves, we each know something great.

Put all of those "something greats" together, however, and you start to build a community that truly can make a difference.

And that's what I've been realizing, slowly but surely, as I've been planting the seeds for my new BarbaraLing.com relaunch.

So how *can* you be a leader when you're just a newbie?

It's easy.

Give yourself permission to begin to share your ideas.

It's almost 100 percent certain that others, even more newbieish than you, can learn from your experiences.

You simply have to have the self-confidence to take that step and help out.

The question is….do you have it in you?

I sure believe you do!  But that's not important…how *you* feel is what will make the difference.

So…..start believing in yourself today.

There are newbies waiting for you.

Enjoy!

Grow strong,

Barbara Ling
