Back on Tuesday, I had mentioned that today I’d be revealing one of my favorite #1 tips for newsletter and autoresponder success (what’s that? You want to know how I can have MORE than ONE number one tip? ’tis easy – I was a math major at college and as you might be aware, mathematics lets you define your own reality. My personal reality has multiple number one tips. What does yours have? 🙂 )
But I digress. 🙂
My number one tip is actually very simple indeed – it involves:
Getting your message from you TO your subscriber.
As you can imagine, this is a Good Thing. 🙂
Sure, you can set up a newsletter signup that sends out a "click on this link to subscribe." But that’s more useless than using tweezers to transfer the Pyramids of Egypt IF….
Your recipient never sees the message in the first place.
Wouldn’t you agree?
So! On your Thank You For Subscribing page (you DO have one, right?), you should SPELL OUT EXPLICITLY a recommendation that people whitelist your email address!
But now an opportunity arises….not everyone knows how to do that!
That’s why you include links to HOW to whitelist addresses on your thank you page as well. 🙂
When you sign up for my newsletter, you’ll see an example of that.
Some excellent resources for white-listing include:
There are many other things you can do with your Thank you page! And guess what….I’m just about done with my latest Barbara blueprint – "Secrets to Adding a Newsletter To Your Blog The RIGHT Way…The FIRST Time."

Remember. If you’re running a blog, you simply HAVE to have a newsletter. Have to, have to have to… because it (all together now!)
Increases Your Reach
When you operate your own newsletter, you are being given permission to PROACTIVELy contact individuals in the future.
Do you know what that means?
It means….
Followup Service and Followup Marketing and Followup Goodies and ….
In other words, you can benefit subscribers and thank them for their patronage by:
- Offering them special tricks/tips the general RSS visitors DOESN’T see
- Running your own blog contest
- Offering them discounts to valued products (you can contact product designers and see if they’d give your list members a special discount like NewWebSite does for mine (drop me a line for that particular goodie)
and you in turn can benefit by using your affiliate link in special promotions and alerting your list to those power tools too!
The art of setting up an EFFECTIVE mailing list is one that is easily learned. Why don’t you benefit from it today?
Enjoy,
Barbara Ling
