QUICK!

Did you know…..

That…..

NEXT WEEK!

It's….

Valentine's Day!

You know what that means, right?

And no, I'm *not* talking about undying unicorn-prancing fluffy pink rainbow love either!

Instead, I'm speaking, of course about the undying love that…

Retaining your affiliate commissions bestows upon your very soul.

What's that?

You're confused?

Well, let me explain it a wee bit better, might I?

Imagine the following.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike, and….

WAIT!   Wrong game, sorry.

Imagine the following.  And yes, do watch to the very end.

Did you *see* that stealth ******** take out that unsuspecting *******?????

Wasn't it completely unexpected?

Just like the fact that nefarious surfers are possibly stealing *your* affiliate commissions this very instant.

Cue dramatic music here!  :)

Seriously though, let's say that I decide to promote an affiliate product via, oh, gee, hmmm, Clickbank.

And I use this link:

http://richhermit.lingstar.hop.clickbank.net

Now, any experienced marketer online will see this link and say to themselves:

"Jeepers self, that's a Clickbank link – I can substitute my own CB ID and gain the commission meself! Whoo hoo!"

And if I had just spent decades writing a compelling review of why you want to buy Income Fitness, and that reader substituted their affiliate link for mine, thus stealing my affiliate commission, my gosh….

We're talking massive frosted petunias indeed!

Yeah.

What I said.

But not to fear, gentle reader – for there is hope!

You can simply cloak your affiliate links to make it more difficult for people to steal your affiliate commission.

And here are some of the best tools for doing that.

If so, check out these useful goodies:

I’ve been using BudUrl for a while now and like the reporting features + they do a very good job of weeding out spam clicks. I haven’t tried the WP plugin but I’ve seen plenty of ads for it. Do you use it? And if so what kind of results are you seeing? I’m on the fence (trying to limit burgeoning plugins here.)

Thanks!

I’ve been thinking in terms of affiliate sales lately – if I can find products that relate well to my niches – but have read about link pirates and how easy it it to steal your profits. This info is encouraging. Thanks for sharing!

Link cloaking is something that everyone who does affiliate marketing should do. The “:theft” portion of it is only part of it. It seems to me that a cloaked link often simply “looks” nicer. Some affiliate links look like a word jumble and it looks more professional to direct them to a discrete link.

Of course the main reason is money. Not gonna lie. money money money

haha love how you have written the post, had me laughing .

I have been using a combination of go codes plugin and seo smart links to cloak my links (when I remember to do it) plus side is the link is http://www.site.com / recommends / product name etc so looks good and promotes more trust I feel.
