The Seductive Benefits of Giving Yourself Permission to Collapse in a Heap

Jun 4th, 2008 | By Barbara | Category: Insights

Taking the hitGood Morning!  Or in my case, afternoon?  Or actually…

Happy "Omigosh, isn’t it time to pass out yet????????" time!

Oh!  What I said!

You see, I still have to write Day 2 of my 7 Days to Making Your Blog Blossom article…and I’m currently so exhausted that I can hardly see straight, let alone deliver the usual creative and insightful tips and ideas for which I’m known.

So what to do?

I’ll tell you what I’m doing – I’m giving myself permission to collapse in a heap.  :)

Seriously…I know the world won’t fall off its axis if an article is a day late.  And after what I went thru yesterday (short story – karate sparring, kicked off my feet twice, picked myself back up and went into MustTakeBlackBeltDownNOW! mode, 4 hours of sleep last night, etc.etc.etc.), my body has taken a definite stand that Sleep is a Good Thing…preferably two hours ago.

So many times, we as bloggers feel that The Show Must Go On At All Costs, even if we’re comatose with the flu, 3 broken arms, 12 broken toes and a NJ accent.  But doing that, quite frankly, can be….well….really darned dumb!  If you truly run yourself down, your blog stops anyways…and probably for a far longer time than if you had simply given yourself permission to take a break.

Now, I might get enough energy later on tonight to write Day 2…but if I don’t, I’m not going to angst about it.  I’m going to simply make meself a nice hot bowl of chili-pepper soup and be grateful for my understanding readers…knowing that I’ll wow them tomorrow.

How ’bout you?  Must the show go on…at all costs?

Enjoy,

Barbara

    Have a good rest, Barbara..  In response to your question, I’m a slacker type.  When I’m not feeling well I simply put my feet up, have a beer and resist all temptations toward self-sacrifice.  What good does burning yourself out do anyone?

    @Birgit

    Chili pepper beef bone soup is my cureall (after coffee) for anything from colds to the flu to seeing Wordpress crash to filing taxes to…  :)   Very easy to make – boil beef bones, slice up chili peppers, add some flavoring if necessary, devour at leisure.  :)

    @Glenn

    Thanks! I’m feeling much much more alive this morning – starting work (after coffee is ready).

    Enjoy,

    Barbara
