Vote for the MILFMorning!

It was with great amusement that I read about the site http://www.VoteForTheMILF.com – to wit!

…What a bizarre (and tawdry) series-of-tubes headache for the McCain campaign.

How could it be that a Web site titled "VoteForTheMilf" redirects users to Republican nominee John McCain‘s official campaign Website? True stuff. Or at least it was until someone mysteriously un-directed the redirection.

As of just moments ago, anyone who typed "www.voteforthemilf.com" into his or her Web browser and hit enter was immediately redirected to McCain’s site, www.johnmccain.com, where vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin greeted first-time users via video. (The .net and .org versions of voteforthemilf also redirected users to the mccain campaign site.) …MORE…

Talk about funny!  Now, for those folks who never heard of this acronym before, "MILF" means "Mothers I‘d Like To, ummm, errr, Fiddle!  Or Fawn Over!  Or Follow!   Or …. Yes!  That’s the ticket!"   IE, a mature woman who is sexually attractive to the younger generation.

In the above case, the MILF to which the domain refers is the VP candidate, Sarah Palin.  Now, confess to me….

Isn’t the above superb marketing?

MILFs are a very popular fetish these days it appears.  My curiousity was piqued, and having done quite a lot of research, I’ve found it’s actually one of the most popular fantasies online!   So it certainly stands to reason that someone in the 387 million folk who live in the USA will make the connection between Sarah and MILFs….so why not use it to one’s marketing advantage?

As a woman in my 40s myself who is toned, buff and can run rings around girls in their 20s, I personally don’t take offense at the term at all.  ‘matter of fact, I think that moving away from:

Young! Young! Young!

to

Experienced! Experienced! Experienced!

makes far more sense in….ahem….appreciation…of the finer things in life.  :)

That being said, I do find society’s obssession with sex to be rather, well, ridiculous.  Certainly it garners attention, as you can see from this latest attempt to capitalize upon the male member focus lots of people have at:

Unbutton Your Beast

This site I found just plain unappealing.   My gosh, if you’re going to have something besides a penis pop out from a gentleman’s jeans, shouldn’t it at least wear a Superman cape?  Or perhaps a black belt karate gi?  Or even have a tastefully designed red ribbon tied around the tip?

If one of what IS displayed thrust itself out at me, my first reaction would NOT be, oh how cute, let me make it a pet….instead, it would probably be reminiscent of a Bobbitt.  That site is obviously tailored towards the male gender, indeed.  I doubt women were asked for their input.

Why am I not surprised?

No matter how liberal people like saying our culture has become….there is STILL that blasted double-standard out there that decrees, women just cannot appreciate sex like men can….so we’ll use them as objects while catering to the gender for which ANYTHING sexual is A-OK.

And that’s just plain wrong.

What do you think?

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling

indeed, it’s wrong. both men and women enjoy sex. there should be no shame in admitting such a fact. the double standard here is frustrating.

Well, first, you KNOW I had to see where the site took me; it’s now redirecting to Google, of all things.
One thing that most folks don’t remember is that sex has always been an obsession throughout history.  Archeologists have found sex objects and art with sexual themes going back at least 10,000 years, and it probably goes back further than that.  It’s the one thing that doesn’t stop when the economy goes bad, when the weather gets bad, when we go to war, etc.  And, any time someone decides to try to lock it down, then it picks up even more.
All of us probably need to relax just a bit more on this topic, but it’s probably not going to happen any time soon.  Still, I don’t know that I’ll be expecting a lot of women to be walking around asking people to refer to them as a MILF.  lol

Hey Mitch!

Thanks for your comments! And you’re so right with the statement “any time someone decides to try to lock it down, then it picks up even more”. Ah well, perhaps maturity will educate all. :) Barbara

Hi Barbara,
I just followed a link from one of your comments on Mitch’s blog to see what your blog was all about. After looking at some of your recent posts and subscribing, I just had to come back here and comment.
A friend of mine says, “I can’t stop growing older, but I can be immature as long as I want.”
I can relate to that since I’m physically 56 but in terms of my emotions and maturity I think I’m still hovering somewhere around 16. I think that’s true for a lot of the men I know and some of the women.
My spirit may be eternal, but I still react like a teenager sometimes.
As a young man, I was always attracted to women in their late 30s and 40s, and still am. However, then, they were a decade or so older than me, and now I’m a decade older than they are.
Then, I was the young dude; now I’m the dirty old man.
I’m not exactly sure how that happened. (grin)
I think some of us are more hardwired to respond to sex-related advertising than others, but I don’t think I’m going to “unbutton the beast” any time soon.
I know a couple of women who are happy to refer to themselves as a MILF and, no, they don’t have websites.
One of them told me about VPILF.com and I was amused when I went there.
As for the double standard you mention, maybe that’s just our way of compensating for knowing deep inside that we men just can’t keep up with those women who appreciate sex – with someone other than us!
(grin)
All the best,
JD

Hi John,

Love your comment, especially the “My spirit may be eternal, but I still react like a teenager sometimes”. When folks our age see that I’m an enthusiastic participant in Martial Arts or learn that I enjoy dancing outside in torrential rainstorms or discover that I’ll take on my kids in DDR no matter who is looking…I’ll get some of those ‘act your age’ looks. Thing is…I am!!

And I checked out the http://vpilf.com/ site – cute!

Thanks for sharing, Barbara

So, that’s where that page went; I’ve now finally seen it.  That’s pretty funny actually; I wonder what her reaction would be if she knew about it.

When it comes right down to it….any publicity is good publicity. :)
