Morning!
Thanks so much for stopping by today - I have quite an interesting story with which to regale you!
It all happened when I took stock of my newsletter and Feedburner stats, and said to myself,
Self, your subscription rates have leveled off flatter than a squashed tomato on the local freeway….I wonder why?
To the LingCave, I dashed! And after greeting my 15 TwitterBudgies who were happily dismembering my preciously-stored copies of "Coffeeaholics Forever!", I did some hardcore analysis on my previous theme (which is now my current theme), my current theme back then (which is now my previous theme)…and realized:
Gee oh idjut All Powerful Mother Unit, you kinda sorta forgot to carry over your main blog theme!
Argh. ’tis amazing the utterly cluelessness one can encounter when one parallel processes 382 different things at once!
Consider the following:
One of my best-selling points is that I’ve been there and done that now for over a decade regarding making money online - I’m no fly-by-night! I’ve paid my dues, I’ve implemented all my research, I’ve seen gurus come and gurus go….and I’m still happily earning my living online.
Well, now, don’t you think that should be highlighted in my blog theme?
D’oh!
So I added it back - "1998-2028"
as well as other useful copy in my header.
Can’t believe I let that slip thru the cracks….and believe it or not, that’s not the ONLY inane mistake I made.
Ah well, it’s character-building. Speaking of which, I just realized…I now lost THAT tag on my image as well! Wheeeee!
Argh. The joy, it never ceases!
And this brings me to the main point of this post - whenever you decide to upgrade your blog theme, ask yourself:
- What MUST my blog still show?
- What image do I want to convey?
- Do I have any "tag lines" or "signature sentences" that HAVE to be carried over?
(there’s 823 other things to ask yourself, mind you, but that’s fodder for another post. :) )
Have you ever updated your blog and lost something precious? How did you handle it? And what have you done to ensure it doesn’t happen during your next blog overhaul?
I’d love to hear your comments!
Enjoy,
Barbara Ling

Hi Barbara,
Do like this original blog theme it’s easier for my poor eyes to see
Sometimes it’s the most obvious that we forget.
You are amazing what you do and have achieved and at the same time ‘home schooling’ your kids.
I suppose the most ‘oh my’ moment was in my recent upgrade of wordpress and lost the whole site. I almost went into melt down but thankfully I had done a backup and was able to restore but not without the help of my hosting co.
What will I remember to do…. disable my plugine (which I think was the problem) and remember to do a backup.
I will also keep a list of all those ‘important’ must have details on file so I don’t have to think about them each time.
p.s. I (egold) added owlbert to my stumbleupon friends

Hi!
Thanks for your kind words! Back in 2006 my hard drive crashed on the day I was to release The Way of the Rich Hermit - ahhhh, I well-remember the joy, ahem, produced? by such a joy.
And thanks for the stumble thingees - I’ll add you too.
Enjoy, Barbara
