Day 13 of 21 Days to a more profitable blog – Be the FIRST to write about future bestsellers before they happen

21 Days to a More Profitable Blog21 Days to a More Profitable Blog Tutorial > Day 13!  Write about future best-sellers

(Good morning world….I cannot believe it but YES!  Today was the SECOND day I actually slept past 3am!  I slept  past 5am!  Heck, I even slept past 5:02am!  🙂 )

Hello!  So nice to see you back.  How has your day been?  It’s a bright Sunday morning over here in LingLand – yesterday we went to some excellent garage sales and then (get this) I actually gave myself permission to NOT work.  What a concept!  I spent most of the day reading a novel about Ancient Rome, enjoying my chili-pepper and beef-bone soup, and just really having a lovely peaceful quiet time by myself.

You should try that!  And now I’m awake.   Since this morning, I checked my feedreader, commented at 4 Ways to Increase Blog Traffic, What Does Google Say About You?, and On Suzie’s Beach — Will You Try on that Comfortable Beach Feeling?, whipped up an yummy Gourmet Blogger Breakfast and am now starting the day.  Wheee!

Of course, that brings me to:

Today is Day 13 of my series, 21 Days To A More Profitable Blog!

And for today, I’d like to talk about…

Star Trek.

You’ve heard of Star Trek, right?  That science fiction TV series that’s set in the future?  That incredible show that showcases holodecks, transporters, tricorders, Deep Space 9 and the like?

Okay now…consider the following.

It’s set in the future (all together now – "Ya Don’t Say, Barbara!").

Yes indeed.  It’s the future.

Just think of how many holodecks you could sell TODAY if you knew they’d be popular (and a reality) tomorrow!

The mind boggles, doesn’t it?

Well, I have superb news for you – while you cannot foretell the future to that extent…..you CAN take advantage of Amazon.com‘s future seller teller feature!  This will allow you to be the first in your niche to promote future bestsellers (and then segue neatly to related electronics, apparel, home items and the like).

And here’s how to do it!

NOTE!Before You Begin – Go to Amazon.com and search for popular items in your niche.

Let’s say that you blog about, oh, hmmm…..lessee…luxury cars, to be precise: the Porsche.   You know, that thingee on 4 wheels that can cost 6 figures in a pinch and is worshipped to a fever pitch by car enthusiasts?

Search for

at Amazon.com, select "Books" and then sort by

You should see goodies like:

Notice the release date! It’s set to be unveiled on November 15th, 2008….BUT!

Customers can PREORDER it today!

First one to break! Are you thinking what I’m thinking?  You can be the FIRST person to write a blog  post about the book and include your affiliate link for people to order it directly from you!

So!  Once you’ve searched for an item in books that relates to your niche, and you’ve found one that will be published in the future, check what the URL is and copy/paste it to a blank text pad file.  Then move to:

NOTE!Step 1 – Write a blog post about the item.

Continuing to use our example of Autocar on Porsche, you could write a blog post about where to find the best photos/data of Porsche, or perhaps focus the article on Autocar and how it covers the Porsche, or write a headline COMING SOON, don’t miss this special savings and preorder –  Autocar on Porsche!

The choice is yours.  Personally, I’d use a "Coming Soon but Available Now!" title to spark interest and then use the review to help craft your article.  Next,

NOTE!Step 2 – Get several affiliate links for it.

Log into your Amazon Associate Account, and choose Build Links | Text Links.  Copy paste the original URL that you had saved into the field under  Link to Any Page at Amazon.com., and then if you’d like, name the link as well.  You’ll see something like:

Amazon text link

Then click on "Get HTML", and you’ll be presented with the code you can use to embed the link into your blog post.

Add that code to your blog post (remember, you MUST switch to Source/HTML mode to paste it in effectively.

Couple of things to remember here.  I generally will use a more descriptive link than just "Click here" – instead, I’ll break it down into two links like so:

…Sounds intriguing?  Click HERE to learn more about the Autocar on Porsche you can preorder at a discount today.

But you don’t have to stop at just using that one lonely affiliate link – remember what we did yesterday in Day 12?  In Day 12, you learned how to:

NOTE!Step 3 – Add a Carousel to the bottom of your post!

Review yesterday’s lesson if you need refreshing in it.  I love the carousel widget because it’s soooo "touch me now and see me spin!"-y…you can tack onto the end of your post something like:

NOTE!  When you paste the Carousel code in your blog, you MUST switch the view to SOURCE or HTML.  It will NOT work if you fail to do this.

Notice the items I chose.  They’re not just books – they span the range with video games, model diecast cars, Porsche magazines, etc.etc.etc.

And voila…you’re done. You’ve blogged about something that will be available in the FUTURE….but can be pre-ordered today.  And because you’ll probably be one of the first, if not THE first, to write about it, your blog post should enjoy very good SERPs in the coming months as well.

Nice, eh?

And that brings me to:

NOTE!In closing

In today’s lesson, you learned how to predict the future by using Amazon.com‘s Publication date and blog about future goodies that will be released.

And of course (you really didn’t think I’d close a post without this now, did you?)  an opportunity now arises!

(remember, there’s no such things as problems in real life – just misunderstood opportunities)…..

HOMEWORK –  Think about Adsense.  What about Adsense?  Where on earth does that fit in?

I’ll confess, I’m NOT an adsense aficionado but I’d be remiss if I didn’t discuss it within this series.

Thus, until tomorrow!  (and don’t forget, if you think any of your friends would benefit from these tutorials, please do share them!  They’ll thank you for it…guaranteed).

Enjoy,

Barbara
