has some rather interesting hints that might be considered… blindingly obvious… but does contain some grand nuggets as well.
The closing of the article talks about how social proof and word of mouth are *trusted* concepts – you and I are ‘way more likely to consider a product or service if a friend recommends them (and alas, if a celebrity hawks them as well – witness the horror of natural health scams that celebrities latch onto with the joy of children uncovering their parent’s secret chocolate stash… and then recommend to their audiences), right?
That’s one reason why you see some advertising popups include “Join 3,284,993 other satisfied customers and sign up for our Amazing Coolio goodie!” Social proof! It can blast past other intellectual concerns and cause the user to fling up their wallet and figuratively scream, HERE! TAKE MY CASH!
Right?

Ah yes, it’s Monday!
Actually no, it’s still Sunday at around 6:30pm.
And what the heck, I think I’ll just dive right into it.
You’ve probably heard this phrase:
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”
And good women too.

I debated about including the following in this perkup, because its definitely polarizing…
… but I choose to believe it is just plain *wrong* to stay quiet about it.
So! On Saturday, you might have noticed social media blowing up about the March of Life in DC.
Most notably, there was a *single* frame, masterfully chosen, along with some powerful text…
…. that took on a life of its own.
And for the first time that I can remember in my life, I allowed myself to get caught up in it too, and passed it along without investigating it further.
Well, the thing is….
There was more than an *hour* of escalation prior…
… the events did NOT unfurl as social media wanted you to believe.
How do I know this?
Here’s an unedited video (more than an hour long):
And the confrontation that was highlighted in social media started at around 1 hour 12 minutes and 2 seconds.
I’ll let you watch and draw your own conclusions.
After learning this, I wrote the following:
“If there is ANYTHING you learn from the single frame snapshot of the teen and the Native American Elder yesterday, it’s this.
Single frames are carefully chosen with the intent to go viral with whatever message the poster wants to share.
And if it feeds into a narrative people already WANT to believe (white people bad! black people bad! people people bad!), it will develop legs of its own and then *you* become part of the faceless mob.
Again:
YOU become part of that faceless mob.
I myself did, this morning. I deleted that post and am removing myself from said faceless mob.
So many people forget the “justice” part of “social justice.” Myself at times included. And I need to take full ownership of my failings there too.
I highly suggest we all do.
EVERY single act of hate from *anyone* to *anyone* is reprehensible.
Every.
Single.
One.
Carry on.”
I am *deeply* ashamed that I allowed myself to get swept up in the hate…
… and neglected to check for the *facts*.
I was 140% *wrong* in buying into the slant the original poster wanted me to, well, buy into.
And hopefully, I will never be that mindless again.

And! In other news, behold this picture of me!
Yes! Got to the gym!
But what you DONT see is …
… 3 seconds after I took that picture, I saw that a woman 10 ft from me was throwing up (we were in the lockerroom). Switching into MamaBear mode, I discovered that YES! I can SPRINT! as in, I sprinted to the front desk, called out Medical Emergency in the woman’s lockerroom!, sprinted back, and helped as I could (fun fact – in 2012, I had my left ankle fused so yep – sprinting is NOT a wise thing *at all*).
The woman (an Asian lady in her late 60s?) said she told her husband earlier she wasn’t feeling well, bad food perhaps, etc.etc.etc. She lapsed in and out of lucidity but from what I heard afterwards, she and her husband were able to walk out of the gym (and hopefully, they went to ER afterwards).
In hindsight, sprinting on a fused ankle was Very Not Smart. I put myself on bedrest and worked from my laptop for the rest of the day.
But I’d probably do it again without question in the future.

Here on the East Coast, there was supposed to be a huge snowstorm… but methinks only the northern part of NJ will get it. Here, right now.. it’s just rain (that will probably end up being ice, oh joy).

Ever see a bunch of people buy bright shiny objects?
They get entranced by the sales page but when it comes time to actually put stuff into practice…
It just ends up gathering digital dust on their hard drives during the decades that follow.
You know something?
I’m totally fine with that.
Making the change from BUYING to DOING…
… well, it can be awfully scary as well.
Thing is, the only person who *make* yourself take action…
Well, that’s *you*.
Nobody else.
And in the meanwhile, you can buy things that make *you* feel good (aka the retail high) and be assured that when you’re ready to take action…
You are prepared.
There’s a great article about this (only in terms of gym memberships) over at

It discusses how people will plunk down literally 100s of dollars for a yearly membership and then, well…
Not go.
But they *feel* like they’re taking ownership and responsibility because you never know when the desire to hit the gym will manifest itself!
Meanwhile, gyms rake it in. Planet Fitness, for example, charges ONLY $10/month.
Wanna guess how many of those patrons actually *go*?
It is to thunk on.
So what your takeaway from this?
Several thingees.
One, if you’re NOT yet ready to take action, but DO enjoy buying bright shiny objects, that’s okay. When the time is right for you to put stuff into practice… you’ll finally turn the key in your mind and make it happen.
Two, don’t judge others who buy BSOs. You are not in their position and you do not know the *reasons* why they buy.
You only know *you*.
Finally….
Yes, taking action CAN be scary. But whats the worst thing that will occur if you put up a buy button and nobody buys?
You’ll gain the real-world experience of actually DOING that… and can take the knowledge you gain to make the 2nd buy button attempt…. easier and faster.
And so on, and so on.

Only YOU can give yourself permission to make things happen.
And that is okay. Why not think about making things happen… starting today?
