Be an covert angel and set the groundwork for unwitting success

Morning!

A few weeks ago, I wrote Be a hero and proactively avert online disaster for your real life friends – ’twas a quick little post that described how you can proactively monitor your friends and family via Google news alerts.  Let me tell you, that’s been a lifesaver on several occasions for my technically clue-seeking friends – I’ve been able to give them the headsup whenever a news article appeared about which they’d want to take action.

What else can you do for the folks you value?

Why, you can set up a FriendFeed room for their topic too!

I’ve done that myself – 3 weeks ago, I began the EduBlogger room.  Now, I’m really not an edublogger officially – true, sometimes I’ll post about academic goodies and rhapsodize about how I’ve found Calculus Without Tears and how my children will write epic poetry about Camp Ling this summer….but the fact remains, my focus is on making money and personal development, not education.

That being said, about 5 of my RL ("real life", for you non-second-lifers out there) friends ARE in the educational industries. 

Thing is, though…they simply don’t understand yet the power of the Internet and how such educational networking can help them in their own personal careers. 

I don’t blame them, of course – one can only lead teachers to blackboards, one cannot make them write. 

Come to think of it, one can only lead mothers to coffee, one cannot make them drink it.  Unless that mother is me.  Because I’ll probably have relieved you of that coffee before you take the first step.

And one can only lead angsting teens to World of Warcraft, one cannot unglue their fingers from their keyboards.  Unless that child is mine.  Because then I’ll have already enveloped the keyboard in a Cloak of Invisibility. And hidden the Super Glue.

But I digress. 

Anywhos, I have these 5 truly stellar friends who, should they ever buy a clue, would really benefit from running the Edublogger room over at Friendfeed.  It costs me nothing except a few minutes every week to post a link or 3 about educational resources, and ideally help build up membership in the future.

And when the light finally dawns, I can tell them, hey!  Now that you’re ready to rock and roll, here’s a way to really flatten your networking curve and start to get the word out to other people in your niches….and then give them Administrative powers within the Edublogger room.

Nice, eh?

Do you have technically challenged friends who you KNOW will embrace the internet sometime in the future? 

If so, why not smooth out the learning curve for them by starting something relevant to their niche, and turning it over to them when they’re ready to take the next (heck, even first?) step?

That way, when they’re ready to evolve hand over fist, they’ll already have an edge their more experienced peers couldn’t begin to imagine.

It can be as simple as logging onto FriendFeed and setting up a custom room…to as complex as starting an online marketing campaign to help your friends achieve their own personal success.  And starting a new FriendFeed room is easy – after you’ve logged in, just click on:

create a room

and take it from there.

Remember!  Doing good things with no expectations of a reward is not only great for your own feelings of self-worth (you do them because you choose to do them, not because you HAVE to do them)….but it’s also, quite simply, a very nice thing to do!  What goes around…comes around….and helping out the people you value can only provide bunches of good feelings in the future.
