Insight - Romantic Edge
Romance
shouldn't die just because the initial stage of courting is over. It's
a powerful tool in your Inner harvest that will increase the long-term
satisfaction of your important relationships.
Sure,
we all have probably either experienced romantic gestures or implemented
them ourselves. There's the mundane action of flowers at the door - there's
the other end of the spectrum of sky-writing your cherished partner's name
during the Superbowl season.
And then,
of course, there is everything else in between.
Why romance?
Because it's a creative, loving way of directing your partner's attention
to the fact, well, that you love him or her! And human nature that it is,
often that requires a long-term reminding. Not just words, mind you, but
the actions as well...the actions that show you take out your own valuable
time to demonstrate the depth of your feeling.
Romance
doesn't have to be just words or just music or just gifts of what have
you. It can also be creating an atmosphere that evokes your essence
to your partner, even if you're nowhere near.
For example,
my husband works 3 miles away. When I hear that his day has been extremely
stressful, I will print out a love note to him on my computer (complete
with fancy free fonts you can find online) and have our kids draw a little
picture. Then, I'll take a cotton ball, infuse it with his favorite scent
(learn more about that at the massage page),
and glue it to the upper right hand side (and then draw a little sunburst
about it).
The next
step is to drive to his car in the parking deck and leave that note. By
the time he gets there after a long hard day of corporate politics, the
scent has permeated the interior of the vehicle. And that's the first thing
that hits him when he opens the door!
Never
underestimate the power of scent or music to touch your cherished partner
when you are far away. It seems to bypass normal interpretations and go
directly to the emotions of your loved one. It really helps you hone your
Inner personal edge.
